Hi all.
Our OMA has cracks just in front of the hatch on the verticals

Does anyone have any ideas where these came from and how to fix? When someone walks on the deck the cracks do not seem to move.

Thanks

Two things. Water & a freeze, or an stress cracks from windlass & a weak pulpit or particularly heavy anchor. The forward hatch border is the first possible flex point behind the pulpit. On a hard pull with a vertical windlass, if the deck core or pulpit base has weakened, the cracks will appear in the hatch corners exactly as pictured, caused by the center of the deck bulging up from the windlass.

If you have no water leaking down from the hatch onto the birth, the causes likely the latter. Fixes include recoring that area of the deck, reinforcing the underside of the pulpit when you have it off, and/or opting for a horizontal windlass. Have someone observe the cracks as you raise the anchor to see how they behave. If you can see them move, I’d at least recommend securing the hatch until the anchor is back on the pulpit.
