WTB Trawler in the MidWest
Boated on the Chesapeake for many years, traveled East coast and Bahamas. Now living in Central Indiana, and boated on local lakes for years, but YEARNING to find a trawler, or an aft cabin MY, preferably diesel powered, to enjoy on Ohio river (Louisville - Cincinnati). I expect an older vessel, as I am handy, and have $50K +/- to spend. I am willing to relocate the vessel by water from St Louis, Nashville, Pittsburgh, and could expand location if boat can be easily trucked (no fly bridge ?) I spend time on the web searching.......... but maybe "someone knows someone who knows someone, wanting to sell"
I appreciate everyone's help. Thanks.

Check on Pickwick lake and the Tenn & KY rivers in late summer and fall. Bookmark Craigslist in water access cities as well.
Look at the lower price sites.,, Iboats, etc.
Yachtbroker has the better / higher price boats. Use them gor better info and pictures.
Use Boatsearch 101 on this site, and the maker forums here and directly (Defever, Grand Banks, Mainship, etc)
Be sure to budget for insurance, dockage or haulout, and $$$ repairs, especially those that don't show up on the survey.
Budget for surveyS. And get some books on boat repairs and surveying, so that you have an idea of what the problems could be.
Good luck, JohnS

many available but be aware of geographics. I bought mine in Nashville and drove her home in the early summer of 2012. That was a bad decision based on monumental floods that year. Got it home though, after 2 grueling weeks, with only minor prop damage I was damn lucky The mississippi is not a boat friendly place below St. Louis.

Look in odd ball places and you may find one. The twin cities Minnesota is home to a few. Craigslist is your friend. Down river to St louis has a few with many places in the middle. Chicago and lake michigan also is home to many. All are relatively easy but long from the Ohio River Indiana area. Keep a keen eye on Nashville and the Tennessee river. many there as well as up the Ohio to pittsburg.

Good luck in your search and be shure to enjoy the ride.
