    Splendide Service Seattle Area

Parts I am parting out my Splendide 2100 XC NA washer/dryer combo. If this your model, I may have the used parts you need. Drop me a PM. I can also provide you with the service and repair manual for this model, if you need it. There are fault codes that can be read to isolate problems. This...

    Heavy Weather - GB42

I have owned a 1995 GB 42 Classic with twin Cat 3208 for ten years and have taken her around the Great Loop, the Downeast Loop and spent lots of time on the Chesapeake Bay. During those travels, we did find ourselves occasionally out in weather much worse than forecast. As others have mentioned...

Removing a Cat 3208 TA from a GB 42 classic

I may have missed it, but what prompted the engine removal? My Cat 3208TA’s are feeling nervous.

    Trouble finding coupler

Here is a link to a good article in Practice Sailor explaining why smooth hose fittings work better than a standard US 1 1/2 barb fitting. https://www.practical-sailor.com/boat-maintenance/hose-fitting-tips

    Trouble finding coupler

Try marinesan.com. Search through their site for PVC/fittings. The have ready made fittings for various bends or you can buy two “1 1/2 custom hose adapters” and make your own with an 1 1/2 standard hardware store coupler and PVC glue to join the two hose adapters together.

Marine Air - Air Conditioner - Recharge?

O’Reilly Autoparts has loaner vacuum pumps. They also have loaner gauge sets, but you would probably have to change the fittings to attach to your unit.

The Table - Grand Banks Classic 42

I have two on my table. When you push it down, pop it out and turn it over, it fits back in the table up side down. Mine is designed to hold a couple drink glasses from sliding around.

    Cat 3208TA's exhaust elbow

Some answers to previous posts. I did consult with a long time Cat mechanic who is now in business for himself. His response was that the accumulation of carbon behind the turbo in the exhaust elbow was not a cause for concern, particularly if the engines had habitually been cruised at lower...

Wet exhaust fittings sealant or not

Forgot the pics of crushed elbow.

Wet exhaust fittings sealant or not

I should have mentioned that I did purchase new, wide, T-bolt clamps for the install. Concerning crush rings…on disassembly, I found that one of the previous owners of my boat did manage to crush the fiberglass elbow attempting to stop a leak. I don’t want to repeat the mistake. See pics. The...

Wet exhaust fittings sealant or not

I am replacing the complete wet exhaust system on my 1995 GB42 Classic with 375 HP Cat 3208TAs. The replacement hose is 8 inch Trident 252 corrugated EPDM 2 ply with helix wire. It will connect to a Centek fiberglass elbow with stainless crush rings, a Centek muffler and a fiberglass stern tube...

    Cat 3208TA's exhaust elbow

I am happy with the way the turbo and exhaust elbow cleaned up. As the old time watermen here in Poquoson, VA like to say..."it is good enough for who it is for." Since I have free rotation, no end play on the shaft, and no obvious oil leaking, it is going back together as is. Thanks everyone...

    Cat 3208TA's exhaust elbow

I have the 375 HP TAs. I don’t have EGT or boost gauges but will probably add them while I am doing this project. I currently come up a little short of 2800 RPM at full throttle. Concur with recommendations on taking some pitch out of the props. Probably won’t get around to re-pitching the props...
