    8D starting battery replacement

Consider 6 volt replacements The starting bank on our GB-49 is still a pair of 12v 8D AGM's but the PO replaced the 3 house bank 8D AGM's with 6 6v AGM's and they fit in what apparently are the OEM boxes.

    Muscats? Seriously?

Otters here in NC and they are only a concern if the vessel is inactive for a significant period of time. We have inflatable otter-guards that we use when we put up the boat after use, but not while traveling. The otters leave enough crab scraps on the swim platform for me to take the threat...

    A Learning Experience

Ours has an emergency steering arm stowed in the aft lazarette. We can pop the deck cover, insert arm's post onto the rudder head and can manually steer from the aft cockpit. Check to see if you boat has a similar arrangement. p.s. if you keep your keys with the sea cock when you close them...

    Alignment of shaft.

One of the steps to a proper engine alignment commonly left out of internet descriptions that I read is the need to check the alignment of the coupler face to the shaft. This needs to be done in all four possible orientations because if the coupler is not properly faced and is out of alignment...

    50a to 30a adapter or straight 30a

I'm not certain, but I believe that mine is the 125v version and am certain from experience that if one breaker opens or one side comes out, I have no power at the panel.

    50a to 30a adapter or straight 30a

Actually, they do. If one side goes down or is pulled out of the socket, the "special power isolation circuitry for added safety" (Marinco Website) shuts everything down so that cord is not overloaded and the exposed plug is not hot. This is one reason why they are very expensive.

Legacy Harbour Marina, Ft. Myers, is destroyed.

If I am interpreting them correctly NOAA satellite photos show it and the boats in it to be largely intact.

    Propane Tanks Grand Banks

Flip66, Industrial forklifts that run on propane use horizontal tanks. Any place locally that services them should be able to tell you where you can obtain replacement valves.

    Windscreen washing

Addressing the original inquiry: I plan on cutting three short lengths of 3/8" copper tubing, squeezing one end flat on each, rounding that end a bit on the grinder and drilling four or five tiny holes into the end of the arc just created. Then, slip this "fan" tip over the washer tubes to...

    GB42C at a 30 amp dock?

Well, Bongi, Ii will definitely be looking at our setup much more closely, but I'm reasonably certain we have a four wire 50 amp 125/250 cord and inlets. Good luck with sorting your setup out without issues.

    GB42C at a 30 amp dock?

Bongi, you might want to take a closer look at your boat's wiring diagram. First, 240 volt service is simply delivered on two 120 volt legs and a common plus ground. We have 50 amp service with a fuse for each 120 volt leg on our 1993 GB 49 CL. We do not have anything but 120 volt service on the...

Sign and Glide Vs BoatUS towing

We've had BoatUS Unlimited for almost 20 years. Two tows in that time at no expense to us. The invoice for one was over $10,000. I intend to stick with them as long as they will continue to insure us.

    What size water heater?

We had a six-gallon tank on our sailboat and we used it as you described for 18 years....worked fine for the two of us and adequately for an occasional guest couple.

    Upgrading/changing to electronic controls

ZF Micro-Commander We have a ZF Micro-Commander on the fly-bridge and lower helm. The boat is new to us, but I like them so far. We have a back up set of Morse controls at the lower helm which seems to be a sensible arrangement. They offer the options you are interested in.

    Dinghy Chocks install

I am guessing, but I would assume that the deck is 1/8"-1/4" fiberglass over 3/4" marine plywood. I would simply mount the chocks by drilling the screw holes 3/4" deep into the deck, remove them, then drill over sized holes, fill with filled epoxy, re-drill the proper size pilot holes and mount...

New Owners We are longtime sailors and the new owners of Gon Bei, a 1993 Grand Banks 49 Classic hull No. #110. From what I can tell she is a bit unusual in having been built with a radar arch instead of a mast, with twin Lugger 460's and with the galley located starboard and aft in the...
