With a continuous downward slope the coil isn’t needed.

    Shroud cleat for flag halyard

Here’s the way I use those. I make my halyard in a loop through the little block. Then just use the cleat as normal but with the line doubled. I always used the hole in the cleat for a quick attachment point for storing sail halyards by their shackles.

Bow Thruster for CHB (Clipper 34)

Good deal. I was going to post something, but now not necessary.

Dometic VacuFlush head, my first dive into troubleshooting

I have had always made it a practice to lift the pedal briefly after each flush to be sure the ball is seated all the way. It adds a little water to the bowl, but not too much as long as you don’t hold it for a long time. In the decades that I’ve run vacuflush systems I’ve never had a pressure...

Mixing proportions of Interlux 2-part Epoxy Primekote by weight?

I was a primecoat user too. Still have one kit left as well as some of the perfection. I’ll be switching to something more user friendly when it’s gone. I didn’t have any issue at all mixing by volume. I just spooned it out of the can into a paint mixing cup, waited for it to level, then add the...

Silicon Coating for Upper Helm Aluminum Top

Maybe try this instead. U-Pol Raptor Liner You can roll it on, have it tinted any color, and it’s tough as hell.

Tyvek building wrap makes a good sail as well. Have to install your own grommets though.

Loss of DC Power on DeFever 53

There’s enough power in the house bank to do some pretty serious welding. Be careful with it. I have a disconnect between the batteries and the positive buss so I can isolate the house bank easily. I make all the battery connections with the disconnect off, check the bank voltage before...

    Steadying sail design/rigging?

A gaff rig has a four cornered sail. There’s a conventional boom and an upper boom called a gaff. The aft end of the gaff is pretty high, in fact higher than the top of the mast. This puts more sail aloft than a triangle shaped sail. Its only a passing thought, not sure if it’s been tried before.

    Columbia River Boaters -Questions

If you do decide to do this move, I will miss you. It’s always a delight to run into you and the girls. Nothing is permanent though, and maybe it could be the right thing at this point in time. Your boat will certainly be able to handle the trip, and it will make the return just as well...

    12 Volt Socket

I believe Ted is right. It’s a work light socket as well as a socket for other 12 volt items like fans or vacuum cleaners. ( original automotive dust buster) I have couple of ancient receptacles that need removing too. They’re different than those, but same idea.

    Steadying sail design/rigging?

A gaff rig would put more sail aloft, I wonder if anyone has tried it.

Rebuild or Replace dripless pss shaft seal

At 6500 hours that seal doesn’t owe you a penny. I replaced one at similar hours and was glad I did. I had plenty of meat left on the stator, but the rotor face was not flat any more. It was shiny, but a bit wavy. Since they wear in as a set, I didn’t want to take the chance that a new bellows...

    Should I replace the dynaplate?

It is working, but at a reduced capacity. The idea behind those is that the porosity allows more exposed surface area, making the plate appear much larger than it is in reality. If you aren’t going to put in a ssb anytime soon, I wouldn’t bother replacing it. It will still function as a central...

    Another holding tank vent question

Maybe something like this? 3/4" Sch 80 PVC Van Stone Slip Flange 854-007 Plumbing flanges are usually standard sizes, so the pipe size determines the bolt pattern.

    Dark blue liquid in bilge

I’d be checking the steering or any other hydraulic system onboard. Those fluids can be that color. Some can also absorb small amounts of water, kind of like brake fluid will.

    Mainship Stringer Moisture

Agree with Fleming, all too many surveyors over emphasize the use of moisture meters as the know all, end all. It’s not an exact science. Many things will influence the readings. The meter should be used in conjunction with a good surveyors eyes and ears. Earlier it was mentioned to put holes...

    Alternator questions (F-L 120 GrandBanks 32)

The 1/2 red belt would likely be the choice if you have 1/2 belts now. They take a little effort to put together but when you get the hang of it they aren’t too bad.

Dedicated autopilot control or operate with MFD?

I’d rather have the 7 inch mfd and keep the autopilot head. I use a 7inch for my main display and like it just fine. I run 2 displays so I can have one at different zoom levels. Granted, it pales in comparison to a pair of 12 inch mfds, but it does the job and I feel confident in what they show.

    Another holding tank vent question

I use only plastic or bronze fittings on black water plumbing. Preferably plastic. No corrosion. I’d be replacing that patched tank fitting when you remove the filter.

    Non-skid

Raptor deck was mentioned previously, I use a similar product in mine. It’s soft under foot and doesn’t seem to heat up too much in the sunlight. Easy to apply with the adhesive already on it. Clean, peel, and stick.

    Alternator questions (F-L 120 GrandBanks 32)

Also, that thing you’re doing with the battery switch?stop it. Totally defeating the purpose of the isolator. The switch should be used for selecting what battery powers the house loads, not what battery to charge.
