    Yacht Burns in Miami River

An 83 foot yacht caught fire on the Miami River near the 12th Avenue bridge. Don’t know if this link will work. https://www.facebook.com/stories/112868157693311/UzpfSVNDOjEwOTIzMjMzMzE5MzY5MDM=/?view_single=1

There is a good article on E-Bikes for boats in the May issue of Practical Sailor magazine.

    Another holding tank vent question

When you remove the filter you’ll need to change the hose. That should eliminate any blockage in the hose. Stick a probe into the tank where the hose fitting is to be sure the blockage isn’t there. Trying to blow into the tank through the vent is like trying to inflate a rigid balloon. I don’t...

Westerbeke Raw Water pump not pumping

Do what Archie said. If the impeller turns at the same speed as the shaft, look for wear on the end plates and the cam.

    Key Bridge in Baltimore collapsed

I think you got it, lack of protective structures. Called Dolphins? Should have learned that lesson from the Tampa Bay bridge.

    Internal vs. "South Bay" strainers?

I think some new boats are coming with just the external strainers. The hole type, not slotted. I suggest the Groco APHS as it has a replaceable plate and can be opened to clean inside.

    GB bronze seacock parts

The Wilcox-Crittenden seacocks used straight pipe thread tail pieces. These required a gasket to seal them. They actually came with leather gasket. I don’t think there is an easy way to change it from a 1” hose to 3/4”. Those are great seacocks.

    Wanted: Interlux Perfection Snow White

Wow, I’m sorry to hear that. I love Perfection. I could get a beautiful glossy finish with just a roller. I sold Interlux paint for about fifty years. If they are discontinuing Perfection, they already have something better to replace it.

    Scoop thru-hull

If you go with a scoop style intake, use a Groco APHS scoop strainer. You’ll probably never need to clean your onboard strainer. If you need to clean the inside of the intake, it is easy to open. https://www.groco.net/products/raw-water-strainers/hull-strainer/aphs-series...

    Hola and thank you!

Welcome aboard! Pick out your anchor first then get a boat to fit. According to this forum, anchors are the most important thing about boating.

    Water puppy stops pumping

If the hub in the impeller is spun, it might cause the pump to stop pumping when the impeller warmed up. You’ve lost a blade. You need to change the impeller anyway. See if that fixes it.

    Water puppy stops pumping

You probably can’t tell now. The part number will be gone. If I remember correctly the neoprene part number ends in -0003 and the nitrile ends in -0001.

    Water puppy stops pumping

If you’re pumping oil, use a nitrile impeller.

    SS bolts in aluminum

We had an outboard repair shop in my store. The mechanic and I were friends and I learned a lot from him. Stainless bolts stuck in aluminum were an everyday occurrence. He referred to his torch as his fire wrench. When he reassembled the engine he would coat the threads with Permatex #3 Aviation...

    SS bolts in aluminum

You want to heat the metal around the screw, not the screw. This will cause the hole to enlarge away from the screw causing the bond to be broken.

36 foot trawler stern thruster question

Real men don’t need no stinking thrusters! Just kidding! I’m in favor of anything that makes boating easier or safer. Thrusters check both those boxes. I’ve owned three single engine inboard boats and many times I wished I had thrusters. I suggest you try not to use them unless you have to. That...

    PVC or Flexible sanitation hose?

If you can’t get Raritan hose Trident 101 or 102 is an excellent hose. It is not as flexible as Raritan but it is equally odor resistant.

True Story: The scientists at Everglades National Park count eggs in alligator nests each year. One year they were short handed.
