2006 Mainship 34T For Sale in Ontario, Canada

FRESHWATER ONLY! Very popular among Great Loop boaters, Mainship's 34 Trawler is a top choice for extended coastal and Great Lakes cruising, and also makes an exceptional weekender. With a semi-displacement hull and full keel, Good Vibrations, a Federally Registered vessel, is considered a "fast...

Removing Fender Marks from Awlcraft 2000 Painted Hull

Thanks, Rich. Your hull looks great! In addition to the fender rub marks that I wish to "rub out", I have another small area that a PO had repaired. And the paint used was a shade or two darker. I'd like to have that repaired too. I'll try the Finesse on an inconspicuous area first - maybe...

Removing Fender Marks from Awlcraft 2000 Painted Hull

Thanks, Ray, for your suggestion. But acetone is expressly discouraged by Awlcraft for this paint.

Removing Fender Marks from Awlcraft 2000 Painted Hull

Thanks, Rich, for your comment. I do not believe my hull has a clearcoat over the paint since the red rubbed onto my white naked fenders. I'd think a clearcoat would have prevented that colour transfer. Do you not agree? One could argue that the horse was already in the next county, but I...

Removing Fender Marks from Awlcraft 2000 Painted Hull

Hello Everyone: I wonder if anyone can offer advice on removing fender rub marks from the Awlcraft 2000 painted hull of my 2006 MS 34T. I washed it with Awlwash, followed by a thorough rinse, and then hand-applied Awlcare. I then attempted to VERY gently buff them out with a soft wool pad at a...

    Solo Cruising

Thanks for your messages BobK and Pluto. Indeed, it is good that we feel comfortable enough to express our feelings on such sensitive topics. Boating season last year was, for obvious reasons, not very good for me. I did do some solo navigating, but not much nor very far. I did bring Good...

Best sleep ever when sleeping on boat

All of the above, plus the experience is arguably the closest to that other period of time in our lives when we were gently rocked to sleep - whilst we were comfortably and securely ensconced in our mother's womb. :-)

Can you answer this ? Please help me

I own a 2006 MS34T with twin Yanmar 240's. She's also equipped with both bow and stern thrusters. And I love the control that twins offer. Yes, maintenance is a little more expensive. But the advantage of control whilst docking and maneuvering in small spaces is worth the extra expense. Also...

So, my memory was okay, but not great. :-)

    Shrink-Wrapping Painted Hull

Thanks, Steve. Wherever possible, I orchestrated a space, though small, between the paint and the film. The only areas where that was practically impossible was at the 2 afr corners of the tansom where I had to prop the film away with small foam blocks right on the corners of the transom. But I...

    Shrink-Wrapping Painted Hull

Thanks boatpoker. By my described solution, do you think I've acted prudently, all things considered? Anything else I could do to reduce the risk of damage?

    Shrink-Wrapping Painted Hull

Yes, I recall you saying that you store yours in a barn on a farm, and have for quite some time. My boat has always been inside heated, since new, I'm told. And I stored last winter inside heated too. But that was Georgian Bay where there are more spaces. On Lake Ontario, the options are...

    Shrink-Wrapping Painted Hull

I also jammed a block between the anti-fouling and the tie-lines, and between the lines and swim platform edge to prevent chafing in the wind.

    Shrink-Wrapping Painted Hull

SHrink-Wrapped Mainship I was surprised too that he claims to have never had an issue with painted hulls. I don't have photos handy with the closed-foam blocks in place. But they're jammed mostly between the rub rail at the tie-cords and the film. For the most part, there is now clearance, at...

    Shrink-Wrapping Painted Hull

Thanks for the advice, Steve. I instructed the shrink-wrapper to stop the plastic just below the rub rail. But to secure it, he had to cover up some painted hull beneath the pulpit. And to enclose the swim platform, he angled it down at the stern, effectively covering a fairly large corner...

    Shrink-Wrapping Painted Hull

No, Oscar, he wouldn't guarantee anything. And this guy apparently does about 90% of the local wrapping. Judging by the number of wraps with his company name on them, he could be right. Thus, I've taken action to reduce the likelihood of damage occurring.

    Shrink-Wrapping Painted Hull

So, the film was snugged tight to the hull? No air flow over the paint? Curious, as that seems to fly in the face of common advice.

What am I looking at in your photo, Danderer?

    Shrink-Wrapping Painted Hull

I feel you may be correct, Don. When I bought this boat 2 years ago, the previous owner had just had the hull power buffed and polished. I expressed my concern that they may have shortened the life of the paint. Nevertheless, I closed the deal.

    Shrink-Wrapping Painted Hull

I do not plan to power-buff the hull. As you said, Awlgrip advises against such practice. But hopefully, a hand-buffing will remove the numerous bumper marks, along with a long white line from the paddle of an anonymous kayak paddler while my boat was tied at the dock. Should I attempt to remove...

    Shrink-Wrapping Painted Hull

Thanks, Dave. I agree. All I can do is reduce the likelihood of any damage occurring. It's unfortunate that I was unable to find an inside heated facility on the Canadian side of Lake Ontario that had a space. This will be the first winter outdoors for her. Next year, I may take her back to...

    Shrink-Wrapping Painted Hull

My Internet search for the illusive spacer resulted in me finding exactly as described - a small tripod. The only problem is that the supplier is in the UK. Even Amazon doesn't carry such an item.

    Shrink-Wrapping Painted Hull

After a lot of questions and consultation about the shrink-wrap with my y'all and my fibreglass/paint guy, I've decided to just install some closed-cell foam under the taut wrap-lines on the anti-fouling paint to raise the lines away from the paint. He said there's sufficient space beneath the...
