I am ashamed to admit that I haven’t visited here in a long time, I had to request my password from the site as I couldn’t remember it, but I wanted to check back in because I saw a boat this morning that I immediately recognized the name of from back when I was a daily visitor here. A quick...
If they’re 420 horse from 1997. they’re 8.3 liter “420C’s.
Right after or around ‘97, the 450 diamonds (also 8.3) were released at 430 hp. Almost identical motors.
Like his 210’s, solid motors.
Higher HP versions usually do decrease reliability...If they're run hard and overloaded.
I love my 8.3L 450 Diamonds.
Check out SeaBoard Marine. They speak Cummins

Good luck on the hunt.
The swim platform is too low to the water. When we are in full traveling dress with the dinghy on back and the 120 gallon water tank, which is as far back in the boat as it can be, full, it's practically dragging at cocktail cruise speed. At anchor, boat wakes coming from behind compress under...
Three boats ago was the Captain's Choice, but the name has stuck even though the last two were the admiral's choice.
I snapped this picture a couple of weeks ago at the yard, I figure this guy maybe named it after his ex, but I may be mistaken.
It does look like a camaro... Yes, Hugger Orange, the stripes were Dover White.
And I sold it to buy a boat of all things!
That was quite a while ago.
That's the daily driver, 2012 F-350, next to the other thing I drive. This was just a few days ago when we were getting ready to...
As a kid, I used to take old cars apart just to see what made them tick. After 2 years of trying to fight my way through college I met a girl, quit school and took a job in the construction industry and ended up in the shop wrenching on heavy on/off road chassis and diesel. I Realized I was...
Canal fees have been waived since the NY Power Authority took over the operation in 2017, as stated above. Some of you may know of the "reimagining" of the canal. The AGLCA has been involved in this as I am sure some other organizations may have been also. There was a questionnaire for us...
If you are going to let your boat sit for that long of a period, the best thing to do is freshwater flush the raw water side. Your entire raw water side (fuel, gear, HX and aftercoolers) will love you for it.
AGLCA. They have a Facebook page. I’m not into fb but the admiral is at it everyday. Maybe that’s a start.
Consider attending the fall rendezvous in Alabama. It is in October, they should be announcing registration soon, don’t wait, it sells out fast. 3-4 days of seminars ranging from...
A quick look on line and I can’t find the 2.5# mantus I have. They must have discontinued it. Looks like they are stainless, collapsible and have roll bars and are part of a kit. I suppose it will store easier if collapsible.
I switched to a mantus dinghy anchor and it works well. Mine is not the collapsible one. It stores easily in the bow locker, along with a bunch of other stuff, of our 9.5’ highfield.
My motors drain down through the shaft seal lines after shutdown except for about a quart in the bottom of the aftercoolers. Lines come off the gear cooler which is about half way up the system. Makes it easy on mine.
Also, the first post notes the oil cooler being cooled by sea water, just to...
