Downunder Newbie

Hi guys and gals,

I've been lurking for a while and thought I should introduce myself.
Great forum by the way.
My family, including cat and dog live aboard Osprey - a 1989 Len Randell designed 54' cruiser. Twin GM 8V92TTA, semi planing hull, WOT 20 kts, cruise 8kts @880rpm, 6000l diesel, 1000l water, 17.5kva generator. She was commissioned for Australian Customs as a patrol vessel. We're giving her a second or third lease on life by upgrading or fixing most things.
Once we get all systems sorted, we'll be off on a 1000Nm journey north.
Based just south of Port Jackson (Sydney).

Welcome! Good to see another on board from Oz. 'upgrading or fixing most things' sounds a bit ominous though.

It hasn't been too bad, new exhaust, one new and three recon turbos, new hw system, new electronics, major service, new through hulls and a few other things.
She run only 30 hrs since major overhaul 4 years ago.
She's a tough old girl - perfect for us.

Len Randell may be better known in the west, but is well regarded as a designer over east. Customs know a thing or 2 about boat selection.
Welcome aboard, and happy cruising.

Yes, welcome! If the basic hull is good, updating the various systems is a worthwhile thing, IMHO.

Hope to see you around Moreton Bay when you journey north.
