The chain/rode rolls out and I cannot stop it. . I tighten I assume the clutch with the star wrench that comes with the unit as tight as possible. It helps operate it one time then it it looses tension and needs to be tightened again. I have the manuals but have not been inside of one of these units before.

I looked up the manual and it says that the pressure arm usually needs to be replaced every season. Have you done that?

I ordered it last night but I don't think that piece of plastic keeps the clutch snug.

Try loosening with the star wrench instead of the normal tightening rotation. Due to the rotation some have a backwards thread in place so they don't tighten too tight while in use.

So loosen counterclockwise then tighten clockwise? It gets tight clockwise and works but only for a short time.
