Whos going to Maine this summer?

Hello,

My wife and I cruised from Savannah Ga, to Bar Harbor Maine last year and we are planning to do it again starting this April. We have a slow Mainship 400 trawler and we recognize that traveling loosely with other boaters can add to the fun factor of boating.

I am posting this to see if anybody else was looking to do this as well so we could meet up from time to time from place to place to exchange lies.

We can start a semi organized "Rally" !!!

Hello,
We are hoping to set sail early April. We are in Hilton Head Shelter Cove Marina. I've signed up for a USCG 50 Ton upgrade class (offered at a local community collage close by) in Moorhead City for 3 days starting April 29th. The instructor for that particular class is also here (Shelter Cove) for the winter and he said the class wasn't too bad and it seemed to sorta line up with our possible area after a few weeks of sluggin so I signed up but that all we have so far...

I didn’t see this thread until after I started one today called “Downeast Cruising” We’ve spent the last several summers in Maine and will be going back again this summer. We should be in Maine by the end of July. We would like to venture further downeast in August, with the idea of visiting Lubec and Eastport, possibly going on to St. Andrew’s NB. I would appreciate hearing from anyone who has knowledge to share on these harbors.

We have been downeast many times. We usually take a straight shot from the Mt. Desert area to the Jonesport, Beals Island, Roque Island area. You can spend days there. Then a short jaunt to Cutler, not much there but nice hiking on Western head preserve. From there to Lubec and beyond. Be careful of the Lubec cut. The water SCREAMS through there. Time it right or go around Campobello. Head Harbor passage is great for whales. Lubec is OK for lunch and a short walk but not much there anymore. Eastport is a jem. Plenty of shops, restaurants and a good marine store. Cobscook Bay is beautiful but not for the faint of heart. You are in the 24 foot tidal zone and there is an amazing amount of water going in and out, all the time. If you want to do customs, you can clear in to Canada at three harbors on Campobello and at St. Andrew's. St. Andrew's is a nice place to walk around. Shops, restaurants and a tourist atmosphere. One time we went ashore to find a garden symphony concert starting. The Harbormasters office is very nice and helpful and will loan you a mooring for a few hours and rent it to you for the night.
