Also, how to orient it correctly (avatar)? I have tried uploading one twice and it always comes out rotated 90°.

Your sideways photo was probably from a cell phone, if you have it on a computer you can rotate the photo and then rotate it back to rewrite the orientation data.

When you figure out how it’s best to (if it’s a boat) “point the boat” to the right into the page. Helps keep the eyes moving in the best direction.
It’s easy to do. Even I can do it.
