Your wake can tell you a lot! Before flow scans, load indicators, GPS to the 100th degree, the old timers watched their wake, a lot. Show us your wake. I borrowed the top shot off the internet. Lower image is our 1952 William Garden double ender at 9 knots. The smoothest, quietest boat I've ever driven.
