That’s a slick system that looks like it would work on my little transom. Do they offer it with a manual operation so I could skip the added complexity of the winch and wiring?

He might be able to customize one for you, Bill. The guy is a problem-solver by nature and enjoys working with people. There was no up-charge for the extra time and bracing he put in on ours.

Looks like you missed the worst of Laura. Glad y’all are safe.

Cool, thanks. I’ll give him a call.

Yeah we dodged a bullet with Laura for sure. That would have been really bad if it hit the Houston area with all the millions of folks living there. We are about 100 miles SW of Houston.

Did you get your new davit installed?

Probably not until October. We’ll have the boat hauled for a bottom job and that will be a good time to install it.

Ours is a bit complicated. There is no way to install backing plates above the swim platform (I’d have to cut access into the paneling in the aft berth) so the supports for the davit had to be attached under the platform. I can access the fiberglass transom to install backing plates by removing drawers on either side of the bed.

I had some heavy-duty 316 SS brackets welded up that the legs of the davit will bolt to. I also wanted to carry the ~550-lb dinghy as high as possible, so I had the builder fab it to the dimensions shown in the drawing. Really looking forward to getting it up and running.

Very nice.

I have been hesitant to hang the dinghy on the back of the boat like this because it would seriously impact my view beyond the stern when underway. I’m getting kind of tired of crawling up on the roof to hook up the block and tackle to the boom and wrestling with the dinghy to deploy it, so maybe I will pull the trigger this time.

Yepper

Would just have to re do it every so often.
