Since I stepped foot on the grounds of Rosario Resort, Cascade Bay, Orcas Island Wa.

We plan to visit and overnight in the bay, on the hook next Thursday, the 13th.

It's too far away in time to get a firm idea of the winds, which should be benign, but it is exposed to the prevailing winds from the Southeast.

So, anybody got any wisdom that they care to share?

Alternatives look like Spencer Spit or James Island. How do those two fair?

Your biggest problem this time of year is likely to be crowding. All 3 are very popular. At 57 ft you can't use the buoys at Spencer or James. Anchoring at James is challenging on the west side where there is one decent spot in the bight south of the dock. The dock will handle your boat if there is room but the current can be strong. I've never anchored on the east side.

Rosario is good holding.

I don't know much about Spencer other than it seems to be crowded most days in summer.
