can someone tell me what the numbers and letters mean?
GNDD05041276 I found it in a salvage yard ready to get crushed.
would it tell me year and model etc..
Thx

The last four numbers are the month and year of manufacture. Generally the first few numbers and letters denote the name of the manufacturer.

The caveat is that on older boats these rules of thumb may not hold true.

HIN format:
1st 3 letters — manufacturer (GND == Grand Banks)
Letter & next 4 digits — model hull # / serial #
Letter & digit - month & year of production
Last 2 digits — model year

I have 0516, a 1977. I could use a few things such as cabin doon locks and other little parts.

Right. Prior to 1973 the were no standardized HIN's, builders put whatever numbers on them they wanted. Serial number on my 1969 Columbia sailboat was just 236. No clue from that what builder or model year. And the number was not engraved in the stern like an HIN, it was on a little plaque in the head.

The last 4 are month and year built.

The first three characters are a MIC (Manufacturer Identification Code) assigned by the Coast Guard to the manufacturer or the person importing the boat; characters four through eight are a serial number assigned by the manufacturer; the last four characters indicate the month and year the boat was built.
