    LFP vs LA/AGM bank size

I had a 932 Ah FLA bank on my boat. Our usage pattern gave us about 14 hours to get to 50% DOD. A five hour run the next day charged the bank to 100%. Our cruising style was mostly just one night in a particular location. LFP would give me nothing except a depleted bank account. Every boat...

Swapping AGM Batteries for Lithium Lifepo4

All of the answers here focus on the "how", but do not address the question of "why". The OP seems to have a simple overnight capacity problem which is easily solved by adding LA capacity and foregoing all of the issues associated with going to LFP. Just an assumption, but it appears that the...

    Yanmar Oil Change Interval

I change the oil when oil abalysis tells me it is time. At 100 hours, no oil is even close to worn out. I just checked my maintenance records on my diesel pickup that has 8,200 hours. Three times I have let the oil go 700+ hours. Three times the anaylis came back "oil still good to use". I hope...

    Ford Lehman 80hp Wiring Diagram

The wiring of the gauges and tachs on my two Lehmans were daisy-chained from the lower to the upper helms. I think you can just hook up the feeds as they were. In fact, your oil pressure and temp guages must be daisy-chained as the senders will undoubtedly be dual station senders.

    Nordic Tug Flybridge stability

Get a stabilzed DeFever of any length and roll will be much, much less. An unstabilized DeFever will behave like that Nordic. Some boats roll more than others.

Ford Lehman, oil brand and exhaust smoke

Why would that be? T4, T5, and T6 are all 15W-40 multi-vis oils.

    Dry bilge??? Raise your hand.....

It worked for my leaky T&P valve. And there is nothing wrong with using an existing accumulator (for the pump) on the hot water side rather than the cold water side such that it does double duty.

    Oil analysis lab recommendation?

Ted, agree 100%, but if one extends oil change periods because the oil is still good to use, would not the wear analysis still be just as useful when next tested? Wear elements are not measured in absolute terms, they are measured against the numbers of hours the lube has been used, so, if the...

    Possible?

I would not consider using more 8Ds an upgrade, an increase in capacity, yes, but not an upgrade. In the space occupied by two 8Ds, you could have had six golf car batteries.

    Oil analysis lab recommendation?

I do believe that all of the labs use mostly the same equipment to analyze oil. In other words, one house is as good as another. What I do not like about Blackstone is that they charge extra for TBN analysis. TBN is a critical measure of a diesel oil's continued efficacy. If the TBN is of...

    To winterize?

Running diesel engines for 10 or 15 minutes without a load on them is NOT good for them. Better off leaving them unstarted for months than running them with no load. No harm will come of them unstartedd.

Ford Lehman sp135 automatically goes to idle from 2k rpm

That is interesting about the gauges on Racors. I had a pair of FL120s. Instead of Racors, I installed Tony Athens sequential filter heads with his vacuum gauges. Yup, the gauges showed progressive increases in the green as indicated by the drag needles. I have no explanation as to why mine...

Ford Lehman sp135 automatically goes to idle from 2k rpm

Why a temporary installation? A Walbro electric pump is rated for 18,000 hours.

Ford Lehman sp135 automatically goes to idle from 2k rpm

TJM, you are mistaken about fuel flow through different micron sizes. ALL Racor filters in a series have the SAME flow rating, but, yes, a 2-micron filter will stop flowing fuel more quickly. OP, a vacuum gauge mounted on your Racor housing will tell you when the filter needs to be changed.

WINTERIZING: is there a best order when running RV fluid through FRESH water lines?

For the life of me, I do not understand why adding fluid to the fresh water tanks and the water heater is necessary given that they have been drained to near empty. My thinking - consider an ice cube tray. It is filled and put into the freezer. The water freezes into cubes but the tray container...

    Diesel fuel return

If you have a vacuum gauge on your filter housing and are paying attention even a little, clogging a filter to the point that it stops an engine simply just should not happen. Rough water? What boat does not see water rough enough quite often such that sediment is not being stirred up...

    Ford Lehman 120 fuel leak

Ditch the mechanical fuel pump and install an electric pump. A Walbro (FRB-13) is rated for 18,000 hours of continual use. Plus, no more maddening lever pump for priming.
