    Curious About My Cabinetry

Thanks for the feedback. I will definitely find a way to store something back there. Perhaps a magnetic knife rack for quick access to the metal utensils I use most often.

    Curious About My Cabinetry

My 32 ft. trawler has a line of drawers under the galley sink; except for the very top spot which has a simple blank drawer front hinging downward. I get the reason for this: there isn't enough room for a drawer in the top position because of the sink. When I purchased the boat it had a bunch...

Alarm Buzzer Not Working on Lehman 130

Why Is There a Relay? I got the replacement parts, but am wondering about the installation. In the picture the pink wire comes from the ignition switch and is energized when the switch is turned on. The blue wire comes from the pressure alarm switch on the engine and creates a ground when...

Alarm Buzzer Not Working on Lehman 130

Found mine exactly where you said they would be. Never occurred to us to look in the flybridge. Looks like the problem is that my relay is shot. Hopefully I can go to an auto supply store and pick up a new one. Thank you to everyone who took the time to reply. The help is really appreciated.

Alarm Buzzer Not Working on Lehman 130

I couldn't find either the buzzer OR any sigh of a relay. Also; I think the diagram shows the buzzer in the wrong location in the circuit. The way I read it would be that turning on the ignition would cause the alarm to sound continuously.

Alarm Buzzer Not Working on Lehman 130

We didn't see anything like what you are describing. An earlier post suggested that we look behind the panel above the helm at the ceiling. That is the one place we never thought to look so I will check there the next time we are at the boat. At least now I have some idea of what I might be...

Alarm Buzzer Not Working on Lehman 130

I don't have an oil pressure warning light - just the buzzer and oil pressure gauge; but the gauge is on a separate circuit.

Alarm Buzzer Not Working on Lehman 130

Thanks for the reply. I started with the engine sensor. It is working correctly. I then followed the blue wire from it which disappeared into a wiring bundle and reemerged in the helm area. From there I tried to locate the relay and the actual buzzer but was unable to find either. Both my...

Alarm Buzzer Not Working on Lehman 130

I have stopped getting the low oil pressure alarm buzzer when I turn on the ignition. According to my wiring diagram it has to be either a bad connection, a bad relay or a faulty buzzer. How hard can that be to diagnose l asked myself? Except I have looked and looked and can't seem to find...

    Fuel Tank Imbalance

Was just reading over the thread titled "Should fuel tanks be full?". I filled my tanks in the fall just before winter layup for just the reason mentioned - to reduce the possibility of condensate water buildup in the tanks over the winter. My boat has twin 125 gallon fuel tanks located...

    Raw Water Hose Replacement

Thanks to everyone who posted a reply. I took the advice of the group and sent my question to the ever helpful Brian at American Diesel. As an FYI here is his response: A) Is there any reason I shouldn't replace the two small pieces of hose and the metal tube connecting the raw water pump to...

    Raw Water Hose Replacement

The total length of the run is only 12" with a slight downward inclination. Surely a piece of wire reinforced hose should be able to handle that without sagging or vibration being an issue.

    Raw Water Hose Replacement

I decided to see if I could find the missing fin from my impeller that I noticed was AOL when I put the boat up for the winter. My raw water pump is connected to the engine oil cooler by two short lengths of hose with an aluminum(?) tube in the middle. Mine had obviously been there for a...

    Seacock Identification

Thanks for the replies people. The "marinehowto" link will be useful to us newbie types. One of the reasons I am trying to identify the actual brand of the seacock is that I was hoping to find some specific disassembly instructions. I have a nasty habit of breaking things I am trying to fix...

    Seacock Identification

Can anyone tell me what brand of seacocks these are? Pretty sure they are original from 1982. The main intake is getting very stiff to operate so I thought I would disassemble them over the winter, clean them up, and replace any parts that looked worn. Any hints on how to go about cleaning up...

    Help With Mystery Connnection

Thank you to everyone who replied. It isn't the bilge pump - just about the first thing I did after getting the boat was to locate the bilge pump and make sure I knew how it was wired and where. It is hard to trace the wires. Some previous owner did a good job of bundling the wiring and...

    Help With Mystery Connnection

I'm slowly learning the systems of my new-to-me Island Gypsy 32. The electric system is still using the original battery cutoff switches located on the bulkhead between the engine compartment and the lower V-berth area. I was curious as to what condition these 40+ year old switches might...

Used Boat Price as a Function of Construction Material

I was looking at yet another boat. It wasn't all that different from others I have looked at, but the price was considerably higher. The main difference was that this one was made of steel instead of the usual fiberglass. It occurred to me that I have no feel for how the material from which...

    Ford Lehman Mechanic - Boston

Can anyone recommend a good mechanic with Ford Lehman experience in the Boston area. I'm looking at a boat there, and need someone to do a mechanical survey. Thanks.

    Marine trader 34

I like this idea. It seems cheap(er) and easier than a full core replacement. It can't be as simple as simply ripping up the old teak, fitting plywood, and glassing the whole thing in can it? It seems as though you would be encapsulating the new plywood "core" in with a rotten balsa sponge...

How well does a survey age?

Check with your insurance provider and marina/yacht club. They may not accept a survey more than one year old. Neither of mine would.

    1979 marine trader Europa

Look to the Past If you poke around the POP Yachts site long enough looking at the Comparables section in other listings you will find that they sold this boat several years ago. For considerably less money, with a working generator, and before it has spent the last few years weathering in the...

    IPAD & Navionics?

Position Accuracy How accurate are those built-in GPS chips? Even if your iPad/Samsung tablets have a built in chip, would the accuracy not be increased if you connected them to an external optimally positioned unit whose only purpose in life was to provide accurate GPS data?

Anyone Know About Weifang Huayuan Engines

Thanks for the input everyone. I went to look at the boat today. The current owner figures the engines have about 150 hours since installation - the boat has mostly been sitting on the dock as a liveaboard. The diesels looked to be monstrously big and heavy for the horsepower. Only one would...
