MMSI number for travel to Canada

The question is (a) what do most people do and (b) if we do the FCC one, what are the separate steps and requirements within that application because I am finding it somewhat confusing. Thanks to everyone who has given useful and thoughtful information of far, I appreciate it.

MMSI number for travel to Canada

So if I do get one from the FCC, it looks like you have to apply for a Ship Station License and it costs upwards of $200 - does that sound right?

MMSI number for travel to Canada

Is an FCC-issued MMSI number required if you travel to Canada with your boat? We got a BoatUS-issued MMSI for our previous boat, and used it for transmitting AIS via the Boat Beacon app, and did not go to Canada. Our new boat does not currently have an MMSI number, and we do plan to take it to...

    Clear thermal window coverings

Thanks for all the info. I think I'm going to do 30 gauge vinyl, possibly Shelter-rite tape around the outside, and snaps with a snap tool. It seems like the tape might turn green and mossy quite quickly, so if people have had success with just installing the snaps directly into the vinyl I...

    Clear thermal window coverings

Can you share any tips or information about how you made these? Sailrite is suggesting 30 gauge vinyl with Shelter-rite tape glued around the edges to install the snaps through. It sounds like yours might have been more simple? Did you use stick-on snaps or install them through the vinyl with a...

    looking for an Eartec solution

Same problem here. Jumping from the boat to the dock will do it too. Mine stays on much better if I wear a hat. I like the lanyard idea.

What kind of boat is this?

We are on a mooring buoy at Fort Flagler State Park. Beautiful beach, hikes and a little store with ice cream just a short dinghy ride away. Always our first choice for stopping up here. I've seen a few boats anchored here but not many - strong current and lots of shoals.

What kind of boat is this?

We are at Fort Flagler State Park across from Port Townsend and four of these boats just passed us. All in a row and looking so beautiful! Does anyone know what they are?

    Reliable WiFi on the boat

So is that the $45/line plan? After the 20gb of high speed data you have unlimited 3G data and everything works fine without slowing down or extra charges?

    New to boating, Looking, learning.

What is the approximate cost of replacing teak decking? I know it would vary a lot, but would it be closer to $5k or $20k?

Hello! We are just about to buy our first boat!

Do you think under $60K is for sure a boat with problems in the 1972-85 36-42 ft range? That's right around where we are looking so would love to hear your thoughts on that.

Marine Trader Tradewinds? One of the boats we are looking at is a 40' one of those.

Hello! We are just about to buy our first boat!

It's a very interesting read though and would definitely be of interest if it was in the PNW. We're assuming that buying a boat that is not close to where you plan to keep it would be expensive and complicated, is that right? We're not experienced sailors. Yet :)
