    Trawler vs CPMY re: Seaworthiness

That's an interesting thought. I have my eye on a 65 Hatt LRC in the Med-side of France. $300K and change. 6-71s.

    Trawler vs CPMY re: Seaworthiness

    I can't afford an ocean-cross airplane.....yet!

    Trawler vs CPMY re: Seaworthiness

For some combination of reasons, I tend to gravitate towards them, especially the LRC-series. Cross the Atlantic, cruise down France and Portugal and into Med. Around the med, spend time in Madeira and either stay there, or back to US. If I bought a boat in Europe, would only need to cross...

    Trawler vs CPMY re: Seaworthiness

Would you feel comfortable on a trans-Atlantic passage in one?

    Trawler vs CPMY re: Seaworthiness

Hello, I am trying to get an assessment of the seaworthiness of something like a Hatteras, 61 CPMY with a typical true trawler-style yacht. Assuming same Masters and crew and same weather conditions, how much less seaworthy would be the CPMY be than the average true, full-displacement trawler...

I don't guess company stays long at your place. Nothing like sweating like an uncivilized pig!

Grid updates, you say? Not likely. The goal is to box you in, not liberate you.

Move overseas. America is going the wrong way, anyway. Instead of the "loop", do the Atlantic and Med. Madeira is my target

    Metal Hulls

Thanks for your replies. I'm soooo confused. Maybe, I'll just find a nice Hattaras, LRC.!!!

Steel Trawlers - Pros and Cons

Yes, great series, Makes me think of steel boats as rush-in-the-making.

what makes a trawler suitable for ocean crossings?

Seems Off topic to me. The OP asked about Trawlers, not skippers, which is a subject for another thread, IMHO.

    Metal Hulls

    Especially aluminum hulls.

    Metal Hulls

I am a fan of fiberglass hulls. However several trawler makes are built out of steel or aluminum. Can we discuss the pros and cons of both steel and aluminum hulls vis a vis a long ranger trawler-style cruiser. I have eliminated wooden hulls from purchase-contention, and nearly-eliminated...

Just curious how folks here would rank Diesel Engine Manufacturers

Do you change the oil in the injector pump "regularly"?

    Wake pics

That's really a great picture. So calm, you almost feel bad about driving over it - like walking on a field of fresh snow!

    Room to Maneuver

Yes, of course. My question is, after all that is done, a 20% discounted offer is "reasonable".
  17. O

    Room to Maneuver

So from what you say, a typical listing for a reasonably "priced" vessel would garner a starting offer approx 80% of asking price?

Thank you very much. This is the sort of foundational information I am looking for. Foundational "in-my-experience" info.

Hatteras 58' LRC are 4-71s sufficient

Thanks. What would you see as a reasonable number of hours before a rebuild under typical conditions of usage and maintenace. Would a boat with 4500 hrs on the engines be a concern as far as hours is concerned.

    Room to Maneuver

I am just asking for typical, ball-park info, not a specific answer for a specific set of circumstances. Of course I am going to learn what I can about the boat before making an offer. Why would you assume to the contrary? I am just asking for general information under "typical", i.e. average...
