    Vacuflush, lucky repair

Good for you! I have saved a fortune over the years that the internet has existed by doing what you did. It's typically really easy to find and buy components instead of entire assemblies, these days.

    Vacuflush, lucky repair

You are probably not using enough water to flush. We had the same issue and now when we flush, we always add a second flush of just clean water after the pump stops running from the first flush.

Aluminum Anodes and Bronze Propellor - Antifouling

I use Rustoleum cold galvanizing spray paint on my props and it works great. I think it would be ideal with aluminum alloy anodes because it's just slightly less noble and therefore would erode/ablate/dissolve first, which would remove growth on the props.

rideau canal recommendation, charter , or boat swap

We did the Rideau/Ottawa River/St. Lawrence River loop (Golden Triangle) in a trailered 25' I/O cuddy cabin (we launched in Clayton, NY) over a 17 day day span in August 2018. It was a fantastic trip that inspired us to finally purchase a boat in May of 2019, that we could eventually live aboard...

    240VAC water heater wiring?

When replacing a water heater, I recommend using extra long silicone heater hose and brass 3/4" MHT/FHT connectors (like washing machine hoses). Makes Winterizing a breeze, and when the water heater needs to be replaced in the future, the long and flexible hoses allow for all styles of water...

    New Guy

Welcome. We bought our boat on Lake Erie and cruised it home via the Erie Canal. Was a wonderful trip. Hope you have fun in your new adventures.

    Anchoring again

You probably do not need another opinion, but on my 30,000ish lb, 44 footer, I replaced the 65 lb CQR, that came with the boat, with a 73lb Rocna Vulcan 33 and a Fortress FX37 after one season of use in New England. We anchor a lot and could not be happier with the Vulcan after 4 seasons in New...

Oil pressure gauge pegs to max

Correct me if I'm wrong, but all your tests have proven that both port and starboardd sending units are good, both gauges are good, and the wiring from both sending units to both gauges is good. That leaves the starboard engine or an electrical fault upstream of the starboard sending unit as...

Oil pressure gauge pegs to max

Some engines, like a CAT 3208, have a dedicated ground wire for the starter and a separate ground wire for the engine block. Perhaps the ground to your block is no good and the gauges are now trying to be part of the ground circuit (other than the starter ground) for the affected engine.

    Xantrex out...Victron in

I think all the Multiplus II models do the switching. I installed two last year, a 24V and a 12V, both 3000 watt.

    Xantrex out...Victron in

I could be wrong, but I think the Victron MultiplusII is the only inverter with 50A 240V switching that switches L1, L2, neutral and ground. That's a really nifty feature that simplifies installation and use dramatically. My Xantrex Freedom 3012 only switches 30 amps so I don't use the auto...

    Running on board generator

You likely can run it no problem while underway. We have, but typically don't and just use the inverter for 120VAC stuff while underway. If we have a long passage to make, we will cook a meal in a crock pot, set in the galley sink for security, and just use the inverter to power it. The...

Should I consider doing my 3208 after coolers my 3208's myself??

Take the studs out and replace them with longer studs that are fully threaded, but when you install them, put a nut under each side of the flange (in the gap between the parts you are trying to separate) and thread the studs through the nuts. After the studs are seated, you can back the nuts up...

    Tachometer issue

If it's a Faria tach, that's normal for them.

    Engine compartment insulation/sound

Another vote for Soundown. Works great. Use an electric knife to cut it, much easier than a box cutter or any other knife.

Should I consider doing my 3208 after coolers my 3208's myself??

I can't picture the problem, but when metal parts are stuck together and are supposed to come apart, I have had tremendous success using lots of heat (acetylene or MAP gas) on the outer stuck part to expand it, then air duster in a can, held upside down (so that it comes out as a liquid), to...

Should I consider doing my 3208 after coolers my 3208's myself??

These engines only have two piston rings, so there's quite a bit of blow by compared to the more typical three piston ring engines. Consider adding Walker Airseps to keep the oil out of the intake and after cooler. I added them to my 375HP TAs and they work great. Walker Airseps were a factory...

Defever 49 RPH or 50 in New England

Rockport is only 17 nautical miles from our home port and we go there often. We were there when your beautiful boat was there last Summer and we admired it from the wharf. Hope you had a nice cruise up here.

Another vote for Duramax packing. Three years with mine and it seems great.

    Hello from Maine

Welcome neighbor. My wife and I cruise on the Maine coast a lot and we like to explore the less popular spots. We took a ride up the Kennebec to Gardiner last Summer. Was a lovely trip. We were surprised by the large amount and large size of the sturgeon we saw on that trip. They were everywhere...

    Raw Water Strainers

My main engine strainers are Perko 500 series 2.5". I have no idea what the GPH rating is on them, but they seem way over-sized and my raw water lines are only 1.5" diameter. I guess I read the flow specs on the Vetus strainers incorrectly.

    Raw Water Strainers

Either of the bronze strainers will work. Not sure how good the plastic Vetus strainer would be, or what 38.1mm means, but it notes that it is made for up to 35 liters per minute, which is not much. The raw water pumps on my CAT 3208TA engines are rated for up to 120 gallons (454 liters) per...

    Tool Set Recommendations?

I was against the blow molded mechanics tool kits but got a smaller Dewalt kit as a gift a couple of years ago. It's proven quite useful and it's got excellent grip on all the tools so nothing moves. The tools themselves are great quality. The Dewalt case is briefcase sized and it tucks away...

    engine winterization tools

I use an electric water pump (just like a typical boat fresh water pump or wash down pump, except it runs on 120VAC) connected to a garden hose to deliver anti-freeze. I use a cheap nozzle with male garden hose threads on the output end so that I can easily connect it to the female hose threaded...
