    Ocean rating

Just saw a Passagemaker post on Instagram of a boat with a “CE Category A” ocean rating. Are trawlers given a rating of this type or something similar? Just wondering what rating different brands and models may have.

    Hydraulic systems

I’m close to a new to me KK42 with Naiad stabilization. I’ve worked with a lot of hydraulic equipment in my life and am wondering why if there is hydraulics on the boat why wouldn’t the thrusters and windlass utilize the hydraulics as well? Seems the hard part is done with the pump mounted and...

1980 KK42 water tank leaking slightly

Thought I would ask the forum for some opinions. My KK42 has a large fiberglass water tank molded in the hull of the boat. I have very small amount of fresh water weeping into the forward bilge and weeping into the the main engine room bilge. I cut an access port into the top of the tank were...

    Packing question

The boats been on the hard since June last year. I'm changing the stuffing box, but should I look at the rudder as well? I dont have any documentation so I'm not sure what I should be tackling. I'm thinking there is packing on it as well? TIA Scott KK42-016 MTOA #7000

    Fresh water tank decision

Sorry if I seem to be asking a lot of questions. But our 40 year old boat needs a lot of love. Our KK42 has molded in fiberglass fuel and water tanks. The fuel tanks have nice big inspection ports the water tank does not. I’m wanting to clean it to have confidence the water is clean. I...

KK42 - Unknow space in guest stateroom

Wondering whats in the space above the small storage area furthest rear starboard side of the guest stateroom? I see one 2" hose dropping down, thats all, with no access. While I'm asking, the galley drawers are very short. I have heard they can be made more useful be making them longer but...

    KK42 Cutlass Bearing

We have been stuck in Georgetown Exuma for two months finding a manifold for our Lehman 120. Once I found one it was a month in shipping and customs. Its installed and we are very ready to head back to Florid. We were getting ready for a test ride and heard a rubbing thump sound once we put it...

    Lehman 120 cold start button

The PO of our boat created a beautiful "Atlas" of the boat. It explains almost everything about using and taking care of things. But a lot has changed on the boat over the years so I'm trying to update it while still on quarantine. The book says there is a cold start button on the fuel...

    Lehman 120 running temp

I thought my Lehman 120 overheated today. It always sits at 162 degrees while underway or idling. Comes up to temp and stays there. Today after changing fuel filters and running it afterwards the temp jumped to 190. I immediately shut it off. My manual says it should run 175 to 190 but 195...

    Kk42 leaning and fuel transfer

We're newbies so bare with us. Looking to the knowledge base of the forum. Overnight on a mooring ball the boat started leaning to starboard. Enough to make me look around. No water in the hull anywhere. Everything is as it should be, but I just put in 600 gallons of diesel, so the tanks...

    Transom door latches

One of my transom door latches pulled out. Not really a fan of the current setup. Can I ask how other transom doors are held closed? Same setup? Or something better?

    Propane tank size

My KK42 has a tiny propane tank. It's an aluminium 11 pound (2.4 gal) tank. Is this common? Seems silly small. We plan to head to the Bahamas this winter, and as first timers, I'm wondering how hard and expensive propane might be to purchase there. A bigger tank seems like a no brainer...

    Anchorage etiquette

Pretty new to the trawler lifestyle. I've read about problems between sailors and trawlers and other power boats in anchorages. We haven't experienced it (yet?). What is the difference in swing trawler vs sailboat? And what's the right way anchor a trawler with sailboats in a congested...

    Head Faucet brand

I'm hoping some others may have the same faucets in their KK42. I haven't been able to figure out the brand so I can buy new washer seals. Anybody recognize this faucet brand?

    Sea water system

I was watching Drenched on YouTube and they have a pressurized salt water system in addition to their fresh water system. I was thinking this would be a great addition for washing down anchors and anchor chain etc. Anyone add that to their trawler? If so is it recommended?

    Get home system

My KK42 has had the generator replaced, which is really nice. But I've seen a hydraulic pump mounted to the genset with a hydraulic motor mounted near the prop shaft. A chain was ready to install and use the genset to power the prop shaft to get home I don't have that or any other get home...

    Current turning prop

We're newbies. At anchor in a river. The current is fast enough to turn the prop and prop shaft. Seems to me this is not a good thing. Maybe not proper lubrication in the trans. Or is letting it freewheel ok? Thoughts? Thanks in advance.

    Guest stateroom upgrade

Wondering if anyone has changed the guest stateroom to a double birth on a KK42? It's fine for kids and single guests as is but was thinking a double birth would be nicer for couples visiting. Ant thoughts?

    Fresh water tank cleaning

Trying to clean the freasy water tank in my KK42. It's very rank. Doing the chlorine bleach thing and rinsing. Any tips? Thanks in advance

    Home port choices

I recently bought Georgia Girl hull #16. I also lost everything to the Carr Wild fire in CA, home, business, everything. Rather than rebuild I bought Georgia Girl. Since I have no home anymore I can call home anywhere. Any recommendations as to the cheapest state to register the boat vs...
