What does a ship's pilot get paid?

On the lakes, all deck officers are pilots. Separate test for each lake and river, captains must have masters license as well as pilotage.

But think how nice the logos will stay being out of the weather and sun….if anyone can still see.

    Voyage Planning

You can pick where you go or when you will be there, but not both. To me, at least a few paper charts are indispensable to get a wide view of the area you want to travel. Being limited to a tiny little screen you miss a lot of surrounding opportunities off the beaten path.

Would you buy a boat that "rested on the bottom briefly?"

Lots of rust on the engine

Fishermen are a pain, it’s shallow…..but I love it. It’s like a real life monopoly game. It’s not a fast trip, but interesting.

    Big enough for Great Loop?

My biggest concern would be storage. Clothes for 3 or 4 seasons, dinghy, bikes, food. Once we hit town or dropped the hook we were normally off the boat most of the time, so living space would not be a big issue for me, to a degree. We liked the luxury of a couple weeks or more of food and...

    Never forget

One little told story of heroes of the day are the captains and crews of the harbor tugs who transported thousands across the river from ground zero or nearby to New Jersey.

    Interesting near collision

If you ever go through there again knot fast, run the Canadian side headed north, get outside the reds and you will pick up a eddy current all the way through the bridge , it starts below the casino, plenty of water nearly to shore, you can see the shallows, makes the trip much more enjoyable...

    Interesting near collision

The sail boat was on the wrong side of the river and got caught in the eddy current that runs opposite the general flow of the river. It is handy when headed north but will bring a sailboat to a standstill until they get caught by the current and shoot across the river…which is why the...

    Scrape or sand before varnish

I use a heat gun and a putty knife, then sand before applying varnish. Once you get the temp and time figured out, easy and quick.

    Depowering a Turbo DD?

For years Detroit had offered several injectors to detune or enhance an engine. Engine life is increased as the smaller injectors are used as a bonus.

How about a travel lift with straps removed and a sling used in their place? We often did this, works well.

    Ceramic plate

Is it at your sling mark? Maybe they used a block to keep sling off rub rail and these plates protected the hull from the block. First thought was a ladder support pad but does not seem to be at an entry gate.

    Survey required for insurance

Regarding the ride, I delivered a 41 from Milwaukee to wheelers landing in bay city a few years ago, diesel, generator, may be the same boat, rode fine but never had more than 3 footers. Only complaint was around the dock as she has the long bow that likes to keep on swinging but most express...
