Oil analysis shows coolant in oil Cummins 6BT

Many oil heat exchangers use raw water to cool. Some use a coolant loop were the coolant is cooled by raw water. Oil cooler heat exchangers are a common failure point.

Oil analysis shows coolant in oil Cummins 6BT

If you know you got the engine extremely hot then I would start with doing a CO test on the heat exchanger. My guess is that you haven’t because you didn’t lead with such a statement. This leads me to believe you have a leaking oil cooler exchanger. A pressure test on the oil cooler would...

This is a four year old thread. I would be very curious to hear an update from the OP.

    Zinc sizes

You can measure shaft size from inside the boat. You should be able to see the zinc’s on the back and trim tabs from the dock. If you can’t see the rudder zinc then just go with a 5” round.

Seattle, new to trawling, excited to learn all the diesel things

I have always had a back up charger on board. I have almost never needed it. I needed it once WHEn I needed to send out the Inverter/charger for repair. I used it one other time to charge a dead dingy battery.

    Market conditions

The market has turned on most boats but not all. It is still hard to find a boat that is less than 10 years old over 30’. It is still difficult to find Nordhaven’s. The market has collapsed on older boats over 65’. Really nice older boats still command a premium.

    oil

Any oil is better than no oil. After that the temperature window affects the best blend. While it might not be the optimum blend it’s hard to be wrong with Delco 400 15-40.

    electrical connector question

I don’t fully understand the question as well. If we are taking something light duty I would use alligator clips, just like jumper cables.

50A 125/250V 6/3 shorepower cable for use with 50A/250V isolation transformer

As usual TT is right. I am simply less sympathetic to stupid. I use to spend my time trying to fix stupid only to watch Las Vegas get rich off of stupid. I finally gave up trying to fix stupid and I invested in a REIT that owns all the ground under the casinos.

    CASH???

Lucky you. I guarantee you some one was investigated and fortunately all passed, Or the tattoo parlor owner is dealing with the IRS on undisclosed revenue. Had it been from an illegal source your deal wood have been unwound. I will give you credit for having the first serious cash deal that...

    CASH???

Every story I have ever heard where some one walked in with a briefcase full of cash went sideways. Even the one time when the broker said he was going straight to the bank and declaring it to the IRS and FBI things Still went sideways. Normally when you have cash in hand the deal is done and...

50A 125/250V 6/3 shorepower cable for use with 50A/250V isolation transformer

The easiest solution is to just buy a 50a 125/250v power cord. The neutral is simply not hooked to anything on your boat. Alternatively, you could buy a 50a 125v power cord and replace the ends with 50a 125/250v connectors. Here you would connect white to red on the connector.
