WTB: Grand Banks Aleutian 53 / Europa Heritage 54 / similar

We are looking for a Grand Banks Aleutian 53 or Grand Banks Europa Heritage 54 or Nordhavn 59cp or similar yacht

We are starting our search but will likely be making the purchase some time in the next 1-2 years as we are waiting for the market to correct and we have too many commitments this summer

We are targeting 10 years of age plus or minus a few years.

Preferably a boat on the East Coast or Gulf, West Coast not a hard no, but I do not want to pay west coast premium prices and $75-100k on top to transport to east coast

We were considering Fleming 55 but too slow and underpowered IMO. It would have to be a hell of a deal to get me interested in that boat.

I’m sitting on my F55 right now and thinking how amazing it is. Too slow? I had to dodge a string of logs yesterday, and sure wouldn’t have wanted to go faster than I was (PNW/BC issue). I can understand you wanting more speed in general on the east coast. But my fuel burn at 10knts is a lot more palatable than it is at 16knts plus it’s quieter and we have shorter runs. Definitely NOT underpowered with twin 450hp engines. I doubt you would find a “hell of a deal” on these. Unless it’s a hurricane rebuild or some other story. New builds out to 2026. PNW/BC boats tend to be lower hours (not doing the seasonal Maine to Florida/Bahamas run) and better condition given the cooler water and less UV sun exposure.

Having said that, I like your other choices too! Good luck with the search.

Thanks, I read several articles/posts from owners/others that have been aboard and they felt the boat could use engines much larger than 450hp. We want to be able to cruise closer to 20 knots. We are fine going 10-15 knots when not in a rush but would probably average around 15 knots. The goal is to get to one of our usual places in 5 hours or so. Going 10 knots would be closer to 10 hours. The Aleutian can surpass 20 knots and the 54EU can probably handle 18-19 knots depending on the engine.

Probably requires a different hull shape than Fleming. To make these hull speeds go much fast, not more horsepower, as you need to push a lot of water out of the way so it’s not horsepower limited. I personally don’t know any owner that thinks they are underpowered and I know quite a few of them; maybe it was owner bias!

The Fleming 58 has the most efficient hull at those speeds, and uses twin 800hp MAn’s which Fleming has standard on its F65, with a few knots more speed.

I personally don’t like the noise or experience on any of these semi displacement boats running at higher rpm’s. Not to mention - again - the fuel burn!

So given your objectives, you are right to look elsewhere at other brands/models. Though many where I cruise keep their boats further north and fly to them by seaplane, which saves time and pays for itself in saved fuel burn.

Unfortunately I dont think the 58 will fit in our slip.
