We have one. There were a couple importers that used that distinctive hull with the port lights in the bow. The boats appear to be a close copy of a Defever Downeaster.
Our boat was imported and sold by Davis International Yachts out of Seattle. Sometimes they are marketed for sale as a Davis Defever. Another main importer is Hudson.
Ours was marketed and sold to us as a 41, original advertising also marketed it as a 42. When measuring mine pulpit to back of swim step I get 43 ft. I have run across Hudsons on the water, but never asked about measure. they appear the same in all respects (except for all teak decks). They are marketed as a 38. I'm guessing that is a waterline length. I have found an example for sale called a Tien Lai Ling, it appears to come from the same molds/yard but I have little info on it they appear rare if they are a distinctive boat.
When I received all the historical documents with our boat, I found two drawings of the tank arrangements and AC/light arrangements. Both were marked Formosa and had "hull 071" marked on them. Our HIN ends in 071. Based on this I believe Formosa was the designer and perhaps builder for other companies to import to the US and sell. There are 40 foot Formosa's out there, they look the same minus the bow portlights. The interiors of Formosa boats (trawlers and sailboats) look very familiar to our boat.
