Way to go, Tony.* That is an advantage of not winterizing.* You can sneak out on a nice day.* Looks like you anchored in the middle of the Wolftever channel.* With the lake at winter pool many of the gunk holes are too shallow to get into.* Bring that boat down on the waterfront for a weekend.

Woody, weren't you relaunching your monk last week after the new bottom paint? get on out on the water!*

Don, good eye! We were between the main channel and the island in about 13 feet of water. Wind was blowing out of the west so we wanted to get on the lee side of the island. We are definitely being very cautious about where we go outside the channel- last thing I want to do is run aground! *

I am still trying to sort out where the deep water and shallow water is at. A few weeks ago my son and I were playing around in the dinghy. I thought I was in the heart of deep water. To my surprise I looked down and saw the bottom not 2 feet below us. haha.
On the waterfront...look for us early Friday morning this week- we should be passing on our way to Alred for painting...ASSUMING I make it through the lock without crashing. *It'll be my first time locking through with a single screw...should be interesting. *

It was a fun weekend on the boat for sure though. I really enjoyed Saturday evening. *It was actually warm enough to grill out some steaks topside! *YIPPIE- come on spring!

Tony, the Chickamauga lock master uses channel 14.* If he doesn't answer that try 16.* You may want to call by phone ahead to see if he knows of a tow coming through in the next couple of hours.* If you catch a tow at the locks, it can be a 4 hour wait.

When you go in ask him for the side that your boat backs toward.* The wind can swirl in the locks and play heck with a single screw.* Just angle into a floating bollard, put it in reverse, lassoo the bollard and reverse should swing your stern over.* Not really hard unless you get out of shape with the wind blowing.

Give me a call, and I will try to walk out on the Walnut St bridge to see you come through.* Too bad that Kaleb will probably be in school.* He would love the 48' drop.* Have a great trip.

*Outside temp today a barmy 36 degrees(95 F) took the youngest out with some of her friends last night for a bbq.

Even here in the warm south, I walked out on my aft deck awhile ago and about busted my ass, since everything is covered in ice! This is here in the Galveston Bay area. Most of the freeways are closed, as is the entire toll road system. Yikes! Good thing I don't have to go anywhere today.

Well today my dad, my son, and I were "supposed" to be starting our little 125 mile trip down the TN River to drop the boat off to get her topsides painted. *Below is a screenshot of the current weather conditions there. *I'll let you all bet as to weather we proceeded as planned or pushed it off to next weekend! *

haha- busted by my very own words!!!
Truth be told, I was all for going...I actually was looking forward to drinking hot coffee/tea/cocoa form the lower helm with the heater blasting and radio on to keep us cozy, happy, and warm. Alas, my dad is down at their place in FL and it seems I could not extract him from his sunny and warm climes down there to go this weekend. So....had to delay. My son and I are going up tomorrow though to do some more work and go for a spin for the afternoon. *I think it was the thought of having to go out for the locks that got my dad deciding to wait. *

Posting weather info like that could lead some of us cabin fever snowbound types to contemplate directing nasty comments your way. (I will hold my comments if you keep ahold of the good weather for another month.)

And your comments about boating in your area seem suspiciously similar to the disinformation the PNW crowd has been putting out about how horrible their area is.

Yesterday, I had lunch at the Riverview restaurant in Antioch at the end of the San Joaquin River, across from Kimball Island,*near the beginning of Suisun Bay.* The wind was calm, the sky was clear, and the temperature about sixty (the same as today).* A state research vessel/trawler was circling in the channel and then docked a bit downstream.* A canoeist and two kayakers emerged and went up the river a ways.* The water was like glass, but a gentle flood tide was apparent.

By the way, the Riverview restaurant surely has gone downhill.* Used to go their with my family when I was a kid 55 years ago (loved those crab louies).* Since I happened to be with my Dad and sisters in Antioch, I suggested we go there for lunch for nostalgia's sake.* We were the only ones there eating.* (There was a guy at the bar.)* One of my sisters said she had lunch there a few weeks earlier with old family friends, again for nostalgic reasons, and were the only*customers there too.
