West Marine Jon 12 Dinghy

Has anyone bought the West Marine Jon 12 dinghy?

At $800 for a 12 ft rotationally molded polyethylene dinghy, it’s 1/5 the price of a comparably sized Whaly 12. Of course this is a very cheap boat and can’t be built to the same quality, but I wonder if it’s ’good enough’ for occasional short trips to shore from anchorage?

We had a prior all white version, it was used on lakes for dog training so we put a platform on the back for dogs to jump off of...we would row it and with 2 peopla and 135lb newfoundland it work well, only reason we sold it and move up is that we need larger boat to train for the water resue test (they use 16-18' aluminum boat.

We did use a trolling motor on it few times and move it well...I would not want it for my tender her in So. Calif as it does not handle any sort of wake well being the stub bow and flat bottom.
