Hello…so I am planning to visit Victoria harbor this summer for the first time in my boat….i have been to Canada many times in a floatplane but not in my own boat….can somebody walk me thru the best way to do it currently? I have the arrive can app but maybe just a few sentences about the whole process, where to go in the harbor etc…thanks!

Last time I cleared there, you pulled up to the customs dock which is on the way in to the inner harbor to starboard, and used the phone on the dock to report. It was quick and I was cleared in on the phone call. This year clearing in elsewhere, you were heavily encouraged to use the Arrive app. We did, but we were asked to wait for an agent, who went through the boat looking in every locker. Took more than a hour.

When you call them, make sure you have the passport numbers for every person, and the boat registration numbers in hand. Also have a notebook to write down the clearance number they will read to you. You are supposed to post that in a visible place, say the window next to the pilot house door.

You will be asked about liquor, food (mainly things with seeds), cash, cannabis and weapons. Not a good idea to bend the truth here, they may come look and Canadian customs agents, like customs agents everywhere, have little sense of humor.

True!

except for me that one time.

I came back from Victoria into US waters around Friday harbor and stopped at customs for that area. forgot the name.

My some who was 27 YO and i have begged to get a US passport didn't have one still.

I came to the booth and the lady US agent started by saying i looked familiar and i jokingly replied that we went to high school together:)

she asked if everyone on board had a passport i replied that there are 8 on the boat and seven with passports. she said that she will be boarding. I then asked her to give my son a hard time, she agreed.

She came on board asked for all passport and my son replied that he didn't have she looked at him for a few seconds and than seriously said. do you know what we do with people without passports? and then ordered him to jump into the cold water.
