VICKERS Directional control valve

Have a leak in the unit, looks like oil dripping from the pressure gauge, there’s a bit of pressure on the system ( 3-400 lbs). how do I release this pressure without making a mess?

Is this for steering? Anchor up/down? Thruster? There will be minimal spillage if the hydraulic pump is off but you really should include more information regarding your system.

I attached a file / photo of the unit. ( I think I did..) It’s a recent boat purchase so still investigating stuff.. It runs a hydraulic box thruster, everything is shut down so I will simply unscrew the gauge to release the bit of remaining pressure, was wondering about the 3-4 gallon fuel oil reservoir alongside, wither it will drain, will introducing air to the system be an issue etc. never fooled with control valves before, THX,
