Trent-Severn: your favourite places to stop.

Hi all. Long time but inactive member here. I used to have a 36' Avro-Richardson cruiser and I now have a Rosborough RF-246. It's a great little trawler that I can single-hand.

I've been on the Rideau for the last 12 years and I love it. I've never done the TSW, though, and I hope to next month. I will be towing the boat up to the north end and coming back Port-Severn to Trenton, and then to Kingston, and back up the Rideau to home on Big Rideau Lake.

I know most of the great spots to dock, anchor, shop, go to a restaurant, etc on the Rideau but I have no idea about the TSW. If you've done the TSW, I'd love to hear about your favourite spots.

In my opinion (which is worth about what you're paying me), your first few days will be the most scenic (I prefer the remote areas more than the congestion of residential sections). I should have spent more time exploring Port Severn to the Big Chute and up to Swift Rapids (Lock 43). If you enjoy getting away from the hustle and bustle, tie up on the upper section of lock 43.

If you prefer the remote areas, exploring the area between Lock 43 and Sparrow Lake is quite beautiful.

Fellon Falls (Lock 34) was a good stop. At this point your going down stream. So stop before the lock. Sobeys at Fellon Falls is a great place to reprovision (large selection and very close to where you will dock).

Loved Fenlon Falls also. Peterborough was also a great little town.

Fenton Falls is a nice but very busy spot. Best to arrive mid week or early in day if looking to stay there. Peterborough, Hastings, Orillia, Buckhorn, Rosedale is a pretty stop, Bobcaygeon, Lovesick is a quiet evening stop away from any civilization, Campbelltown has most everything available. The Kawartha lakes are has some nice opportunities to anchor if thats of interest. Trenton is a great place to spend a couple days to relax & reprovision after the TSW. Trent Port Marina is outstanding.
Some of the stops offer 3rd day free when staying 2 nites. Nice feature if you have the time and enjoy a longer break and have the time.
If you have never been to Picton it is also a nice stop on your way back to Kingston.
If you enjoy the TSW trip I'd highly recommend returning to Georgian Bay to explore the scenic beauty and great cruising areas. The Inland Small Craft Route that traverses the Eastern shore is a perfect route for a smaller boat wanting to explore GB. Good stop at marinas and exceptional anchorages. The Bacchus log includes GB from Port Severn / Midland up to N of Parry Sound and I highly recommend it. Trailering gives you a perfect opportunity to explore GB.

I'm hoping to spend a bit of time at Midland as I have a friend there I don't see often. I also have folks I hope to stay with near Peterborough. They have a cottage on Chemong Lake that I think has enough draft for me to get to.

We did the TSW in 2018 starting in mid-July. and finished about q month & half later, staying in Beacon Bay Marina in Penetanguishene for the winter.
I use a Garmin VIRB Video camera to film the whole trip
Each day was a different trip, and we enjoyed the whole trip. It was part of our 8yr Loop.
It's really too much to go into but would be glad to PM with you to go over the trip and share some video.

I'm now thinking of the Triangle Loop to Ottawa and back down through Lake Champlain, which we did on our way up to the TSW, a side trip.

It's a great trip, enjoy.

1. Trent Port Marina treats guests like long lost company. A must stay. Clean as a fine hotel.

2. Peterborough is tops for a couple day stay. Marine supplies, people supplies, and evening entertainment. Plus the worlds largest lift look.

I'm already planning a couple-three days in Peterborough. I have friends there who have a cottage on Chemong Lake. I doubt I'll get to their cottage dock because it's too if-y, even for my 2.5 ft draft. So I'll prob stay at the marina or with another friend who has a dock right on the Trent near lock 19.

I've never been to the Trent Port Marina, but it sounds nice. I'll plan to make a stop. Not all marinas are deserving of being spoken of that highly, as we well know. haha

Folks have also spoken in equally glowing terms of the municipal harbour in Orillia.

Oh, and yes, I did get a Cruising Guide.

Hoping to start the journey on Thursday.
