Every marina we visited during the first half of our loop adventure last year told us there were three times as many loopers this year than in years past. In many spots along the inland waterway portion of the loop, such as the Mississippi and Tennessee / Black Hawk River, the low water conditions late in the season meant very few anchorages and they were all packed full long before nightfall.
We've met plenty of loopers who plunked down two, three, four hundred thousand on a boat who planned to do the loop and sell it immediately upon completion. We met a few who had so little boating experience - and such nice boats - we wondered how they could have possibly made it as far as they had. We met people doing the loop in gleaming shiny brand new Nordhavns, KKs, OA's, GB's...
I don't know what's causing this, maybe Covid last year, maybe all the You Tube channels, or just wealthy boomers craving something different... But it's definitely driving up the price of trawlers.
