Travels of "Emma B" (JD powered Helmsman)

The friendliest place on the web for anyone who enjoys boating.

Good call to keep going if that group was in there!
Not enough room to swing a cat....cat boat that is

Checked into customs at Friday Harbor and spent the evening Tuesday.
Must say the customs officers treated me very respectfully and were quite helpful! Very professional. I’ve had bad experiences over the years both coming and going but this office was awesome.
I like Friday Harbor, it’s a funky lil hamlet and great place to walk around! The marina is awesome as well with everything from low end old relics to hi end yachts. I love the mix!

Last 2 nights in Bellingham. Trip over Wednesday was flat calm. This is a huge harbour with a lot of boats! Turned out both friendlier a less $$ than expected. Big chandleries and a ton of marine services. Headed back to Friday Harbor today. IRENE, where are you?

Good Morning...

We are on the boat this morning. Will see what happens with this predicted blow this morning. We have an attractive window to depart around noon for Friday Harbor, hope to head that way...

I’m just looking at today and next few days...
I may make the call and continue up to Salt Spring island if the going is good as I’m to meet folks in Montague Harbour on Monday.
Weather certainly dictates travel in the fall.
Will update

Understood. The winds do not appear favourable (please note Canadian spelling) for the Friday Harbor/Saltspring run tomorrow or Sunday...

Well, the boss just made the call to remain attached to the dock today.

I am sorry you are so close and we will not cross paths. We will have another opportunity...

Yes.... we are both active so there will definitely be more opportunities!
Tied up in Ganges harbour on Salt Spring at 4:15. Pretty easy trip, mostly very calm and tide with. Bucked it hard for a while at the top of San Juan Island but other than that, not too bad considering..
Long day, tired, will be an early night!

Just back from a little walk before packing it in..
Kind of a nice evening picture walking back down the docks..
I’m liking this place. Stores and restaurants handy to the dock, and a farmers market on Saturday if it’s still going this late. Will find out tomorrow.

I have never seen the Kanaka docks so empty, great photo & place!

Enjoyed my relatively short walkabout last night as some liquid sunshine was present. Seems a nice, funky sort of place.
Only 4 vessels at the docks last night not counting 2 crew boats.
That’s why I prefer fall cruising out here. It really thins out up north and you most often feel as though it’s all yours.

Week and a half ago, you would have just snapped a picture of my boat. After a week back at work, already miss it.

Just in from a better walk about. Very funky and the mArket is still open Saturday!
Yep, pretty quiet at the marina

I hate you, I hate you, I hate you. Not really. I’m just really jealous.

Signed; Trawlerless in New England as boats and docks are being hauled for the winter.

Well Mike...
Being a sunny Saturday things certainly changed here at the marina.
Is this how you remember it?

Wifey B: It was 75 and sunny in Gloucester today and 69 tomorrow. Weather like that and boat not on the water, I'd cry. :(

Some marina eye candy
The Chris craft is a 1958 with twin Ford 427s
No details on the schooner or sloop, both pretty!

Here’s a scene not repeated back home in the NE
Trees with leaves changing into fall colours AND palm trees in the background.
Strikes me so odd, but have noticed it as far north as Lund.

I have no idea why, but I immediately recognize that as Ganges.

Definitely where it was taken...
Loved it there! Spent 4 days...
Did Dodd’s narrows today and are back at Newcastle Island for the evening. Headed over to Nanaimo tomorrow to meet boating friends I net in Bahamas years ago. Cruising makes the world small

Early start across the Strait of Georgia with a good forecast... and thankfully one that so far is correct.
Whiskey Gulf isn’t on today so a nice straight shot to Pender Harbour
Pic is just now

Wow, perfect day to cross!

Space at Kanaka docks and a flat strait crossing, we have to get back to late season cruising.......:thumb::thumb::thumb:

Funny you say “late season”....
I feel like I’m just getting started :)
Lots of benefits.
Desolation Sound will be close to empty.
Heriot Bay, Gorge Harbour, Port McNeil, Sointula and most others are on off season rates.
The mountains are more beautiful as they get snow capped. There is much to be said for a fall cruise.
Left Pender Harbour at 7am bound for Lund.
Nearly flat calm again
Come on up!!

Pic is just outside Pender about 7:20am this morning

I’m jealous. I’m still working, my wife likes warm weather cruising, she also is jealous of time we spend apart. That means shoulder season cruising is pretty tough.

You are hitting great fall weather.

Awesome scenery and great pics thx for showing, in October what daytime temps are you experiencing on average?

Last week sitting in the sun on the dock with the boat blocking the wind a Ganges I’ll bet it was mid 70s.
60s is more common and now up at Lund and heading further N, there will be days in the high 50s too
