The New Helmsman 46

The friendliest place on the web for anyone who enjoys boating.
If you have answers, please help by responding to the unanswered posts.
Your boat looks great! Looks like you have a bit of a side deck but no guard rails. Is it useable?
Thanks!!
Handhold rails above the salon windows run the length of the FB deck. Makes passage along the side decks safe and easy from fore deck to cockpit.

H46E exterior photos on the Helmsman website.

A number of details catch the eye in the fine execution of this design. For starters, the execution of the look of the hard top is outstanding.

Do I see that engine room vents have been lifted above the cap rail, under the steps to the flybridge? Great idea.

MM twin rotors install has begun at CSR.
Circular sections of the hull were cut.
Rotors being painted, coated with epoxy then with antifouling.
Dedicated inverter and MM control box installed previously.
Work on forming the hull plate and welding to the thru hull bushing next.

Impressive hull reinforcement 😎

Saw this yesterday. Very nice drone filming. The boat looks Great. Looking forward to an interior walkthrough which hopefully will be coming.

Looks great! The extended cockpit space looks to be quite useable, room for a table and chairs back there. Can't wait to see the interior pics, hopefully video also.

I think Lisa will be filming the interior when Kiskadee is back at the Helmsman docks next week.

It appears that the Starlink dish is right in the beam of the radar. That may just be the perspective presented by the drone. If so, you may want to talk to your installer about the position of the two relative to each other . Maybe have them both operating at the same time and see how they perform. Over time the radar can present a problem for the Starlink electronics if it is in the beam. Some have reported an immediate issue with that.

Thanks, I have the same concern. Eddie Legard, the experienced Helmsman trawlers installer, has assured me that performance should be fine. I will test and report at a later date.

Kiskadee interior photos.

MM rotor installation work continues ar CSR. Could be another two weeks to complete.

Stunning interior and layout - seems like a very long time at CSR - is this normal?

I don't think so. The MM installation is pretty routine, and CSR has installed them before,
From my visits to the yard, it looks like a situation where there are too few craftsmen who are working on several projects at the same time.
The yard is full.

Well - you are going to have a stunning and well equipped boat ready and trialed for summer!

A lot to like with your new 46! I think my favorite parts of the boat are the layout of the Pilot House and the room you have in the cockpit. We would spend a lot of time back there, I think. I like the doors, too. While the sliders on the 38e and 43e are nice, I think the class A type doors “send a message”. The half doors in the pilot house are cool, too.

I like the place for two recliners in the salon. The rake of the flybridge roof is pretty cool too. Storage aft of the bow is handy.

Really nice well thought out Helmsman!

Well designed, well built, with excellent fit and finish. A signature Helmsman: " solidly built and finely-crafted".

Test fitting prior to welding on starboard side.

Take careful notice of where the lift points are relative to the rotors. I believe Helmsman labels the lift (strap) locations.? I may even consider labeling the rotor area with 'no lift' labels on my 43. Will the two units work independently or will they "talk" with each other?

Thanks for the heads up on the lift strap position re-labelling. The rotors can be operated independently. With both deployed, they 'talk' to each other by counter rotating as the roll is detected by the sensors located in the control station.

I would guess it is just the perspective from which the first photo was taken but the knuckle looks closer to the keel than I might have expected. Do you know what percentage of full beam you captured in this installation?
The rotor can obviously produce more force as the ‘arm’ increases.

Good question Bill. The naval architect's drawings were sent to MagnusMaster, and they determined the optimum placement for the rotors. As installed, the knuckle is approximately 6 feet from the keel, and 6 feet from the stern.
