I am ex global service coordinator for Grand Banks, and love to help trawler owners out with issues, as well as I'm a New Zealand certified professional boat builder. I have also started and sold out of two marine based Lithium battery companies, and have been converting commercial and private vessels for about 16 years, so happy to help anyone looking for information on lithium batteries and conversions of existing boats to electric drives. Looking forward to meeting all or many of you in the PNW this year cruising the lower gulf Islands, and later in the summer up in Haida Gwai.

Welcome aboard. Glad to have your expertise here.

Welcome aboard. I have found this to be a great sight for ideas and advice. Speaking of which, I am refitting a 1973 GB 36 classic. The mahogany frame windows are rotted away and the glazing is all compromised. I am looking for direct fit replacements in either fiberglass or aluminum frames. Do you have any thoughts on this?
Thanks,

With patterns and needed thickness, it is not too hard to build this. where do you live? I can help coordinate a local resource to do this for you. You will need to make a paper pattern (use thick paper, stiff) of the inside of the holes and then measure the thickness needed in width and depth of the parts, it will be cheaper to do and mount in FRP but you can determine against quotes for both from your local person who can do the replacement. if you want to do on your own, I will just connect you with a builder in both materials that can Make this for you. if you have the brand of hatches you have as well as the overall dimensions of them I can help to make sure it fits before it is made.

Thanks for getting back to me so quickly. I am in New England. I looked at one site that gave details on sizing the openings but they seem to be out of business. I was looking for advice on a reliable, quality supplier/manufacturer wherever they were located. I have a little way to go before I am ready for the windows, mostly planning ahead at this point. I don't plan on being in the water any earlier than spring 2026. I am refitting the boat myself and I have a strong mechanical background with access to other resources for FRP and joinery work. Thanks for the assistance.

no worries, I can connect you with a shipyard or two in your area if you are having any difficulty, there is also the Landing School, they would appreciate this kind of project to teach students how to work on classic boats.
