I am working on plans to install lithium batteries for the house bank. Currently, have 3 x Fullriver 260ah AGMs for house batteries and 2 FLA 960CCA as Start batteries. the Fullrivers are still decent but I installed Solar panels last summer and would like to upgrade to LFP to make the most of things. I am adding 2 more solar panels this coming season.

At the helm, there is Start assist that I imagine combines both Start & house batteries, if the Start batteries are weak. I played with it but never needed it. Now, that I am upgrading the house batteries to LFP.. Should I disconnect this option? My understanding is that LFP should not be connected to batteries of different chemistries.

In the ER, I see that the negative of the Start batteries is connected to the ground bus of the house batteries. I could not identify the positive connection between house and Start batteries. I am sure that I will find it in due course but it's not obvious.

To mitigate the possibility of the BMS cutting out under the heaviest load in probably the most vulnerable activities, I am keeping the 3 AGMs for Windlass & Crane davits demands and probably for the hydronic kabola power supply since its connected outside the breaker panel.

I may even try setting up a system where if the LFP BMS cuts out, I can switch to the AGM to supply all house demands.

Any advice/comments on the Start assist/combine connection would be much appreciated.

Thank you

As background, the Bow & Stern thrusters run on a separate independent 48V Lifeline battery bank with its 48V charger.

The start assist solenoid is the only connection you should have between the house and the starting bank in the typical OEM configuration.
