The lift strut on a friends sailboat has failed. I found it at NauticSpares for about $120.00. Thought that was a bit high. Would like to know if I am off base or if anyone has another source. It is a Resorts SPEC 134037-650N.

Specs are, overall length 485 mm, Stroke 200mm and force of 650N. I think
N is Newtons. Photo attached.
Thanks,
Rob

ft/inches and ft/lbs of force? with the English measurements there should be plenty of suppliers in the US... hopefully some will have the proper ends!

It`s worth checking ebay, though how stainless the "described" stainless ones are it uncertain. Way less than $120. If nothing else you`ll see what`s available and mfr claims.
Be careful on the N(Newton) rating. I recently replaced 3 and overdid the Newton strength, see if you can find a rating on the old one. Overdone, not only can they be hard to use but I strained/pulled out the hinge attachment screws

Here are the conversions.

Overall length 485mm =19.1”

Stroke 200mm =7.874 in 7.9”

Force 650N =146.126 lbf

Tightening head studs with a tension wrench, 146 ft pounds would be fairly heroic, recollection is the usual setting was way less. 650N is a lot of Newtons. Beware of overloading attachment points and hinges. If you cross reference with my "Failed screw hole repair" thread you`ll see where it can lead. Failed screw hole repair

Good morning Bruce,
We are replacing like with like. The mounting points are rugged and have held up well over over the past 10 years.

I found ARANA 20” struts this morning on Amazon. Looks like they will do the job. Thanks everyone for your help. Will report back after installing.
