I have a new KOVA pump with a Stainless Strainer housing and plastic basket installed on our new marine air con unit, which is on 24/7 in the marina here in Townsville QLD Australia. I have had plenty of experience with sea strainers etc over the year and maintaining them is not and never been an issue. My problem is how quick the "calcium" "coral" build up is happening, within 2 to 3 weeks the strainer is almost chocked with buildup and restricting water flow. Whilst I don't mind cleaning and doing the maintenance on it, but am I missing something here why is it building up so quickly, it is new to me as I have not had this issue before with other boats.

I had that issue. I kept bromide tablets in the strainer which didn’t eliminate the problem but definitely slowed it down.

Thanks for this I will give this a go now as it is worth a shot anything to at least slow it down is better than what we have now. Cheers heaps for this suggestion.
