Ok I went salt mining on my boat over the weekend. I was installing a new shower sump that will accept additional lines like ac condensate lines to keep the bilges dry. I spent 2 days under the floors in the forward 2/3 of the boat fixing stuff and vacuuming and cleaning out the bilges. Adding a bilge dry system x 2 in the boat. Found a reasonable option from sea flow with a 4 year warrantee. I was Looking for misc. water system leaks, Installing new oil cups for thrusters, new shower sump, and re routing and replacing condensate lines for the forward ac units. Under the old battery bank location I found what looked like frozen water. But no, SALT . It was so thick I had to scrape it out with pry bars and chisels. In the end I wound up with 1/2 of a 5 gallon bucket of salt crystals. Just a small amount of water or liquid salt in the compartment. The surrounding compartments are clean and dry except for 1 with fresh water in it. The condensate for the ac line. I have no clue how much salt water dried out would create this much salt. The compartment if fully sealed on all sides but the top. . No weep holes or anything. I did find a repair like from a removed transducer in the area. Maybe this was an old leak from a transducer of through hull that was removed but never cleaned out since it was under the 4 8 d batteries.( I have since removed and gone lithium) I would say from the staining ring the compartment would hold 15-20 gallons of water. I cleaned it out and its bone dry and I am in the water 365. Really weird.
