Safety report on the loss of Theros

The friendliest place on the web for anyone who enjoys boating.

Tried to save the planet, but ended up killing themselves. I don't mind people trying to be more green, but when it puts your life at risk, it's not worth it.

There are some very strange things that happened. Undoubtedly alive, but injured after the event, nobody looked for them for 3 weeks, even though their reported position had not changed. Why their epirb didn't deploy is a mystery. Fires can happen very quickly...

Possibly the epirb could have been destroyed by fire?

I have been trying to find any videos about their electric propulsion retrofit. Their YouTube video titles are not particularly helpful in that regard. Has anyone come across anything? I did find one saying they had repurposed a Nissan Leaf battery system, which sounds fraught with peril. I'm just curious how well the system was done, or if it was a hazard by design.

I saw several credible reports at the time that they had repurposed a Leaf battery.

YouTube showed me this video recently,
, which is about battery explosions. One was in Germany and was an LG power wall battery that exploded and destroyed a house. Comments in the video mention that LG has a recall on their house battery system's in Australia.

The other battery explosion was in Austria where a guy was trying to use old Tesla battery(ies) as power backup.

I too have read that the boat that sank was using a Leaf battery.

The video did mentioned that LiFePo4 batteries can exhaust hydrogen if they have a thermal event. I did a bit of reading and found a paper that said that this is what happens.

I'm hoping to find specifics on Theros in hopes of making some assessment of their particular power system. Based on the burned floatation suit, there was definitely a fire, but we have no idea what sort of fire nor what caused it.

Plenty of risk with the unconventional homestead solutions, and it would appear that those risks easily outweigh benefits. Travel at sea is already fraught with dangers, it just doesn't seem prudent to add a host of unknowns to that list just to make a green statement. RIP.
