Considering buying a 1978 55' Roughwater. Curious if the fuel tanks in these boats are stainless steel? Engine hours look pretty good. Decks could use work. I'm sure this is a major project, but curious if there are any other concerns/things to look out for on these?

My 1980 41 Pilothouse has mild steel tanks. I think that is all they used during that time period.

We own a 58 ft pilot house long range, blue water. The tanks are mild steel. Stainless steel need to breath so is not suited for thanks fuel tanks. Ss is great for water tanks. I been thru our 58 from bow to stern and replaced/repaired.

We are going to put our 58 up for sale when we get back this summer. We lived on the eagle for 34 years. Great cruising and live aboard

The big concerns are the teakwood decks and roof, mild steel fuel tanks, and detroit diesel engines. This summer the front teak decks will be sanded down and recualk and sealed.
