I have a 2002 34' Pilot Mainship. All the glass installed is using sealant with no frame work holding it in place. The windshield, side and aft bulkhead glass is installed this way. The boat is now 22 years old. There are no leaks and the glass appears to be held in place and not compromised. The sealant is faded and has a few areas that show aging. I know the best way to reseal the glass would be to remove the glass clean the sealing area and reset the glass. That seems like a lot of work when there is no leak issues. My goal is to cosmetically repair. I would like to clean the sealant and run a fresh bead over the top of the existing sealant. My question is does anyone know if Mainship used SikaFlex products? From what I have read Sikaflex will bond to old Sikaflex if it is cleaned. Silicones will not. Has anyone run a bead of Sikaflex over existing old Sikaflex with a good result?

I have not. I thought I would ask here. I'm gong to call Sika USA customer service and see what they have to say.

I use Sika caulk for most things but I haven’t ever tried putting new caulk over old so I can’t say if it works or not. I have had good customer service from Sika so you might try calling them.

I have a 2001 main ship pilot that needed extensive work with all the glass in the boat. I am enlisted to help of a friend in the windshield business and we removed all the glass exterior rubber, gasketing, etc. in the process. I changed the clear side panel glasses to a tinted glass, which really helped with the heat transmission inside the cabin. The key to using the Sika products is after applying new sealant they require the exterior be covered with black UV resistant tape to prevent their product from deteriorating overtime. Unfortunately, my boat is under shrink wrap in the yard and otherwise I would take a few photos to show you the finished product . It was a lot of work, but my windshield associate was extremely knowledgeable and the result looks quite professional. Hope this helps.
