Redecorating our Trawler

This Christmas my gift to Mary*was carte blanche in redecorating our trawler, the Patricia Anne.* The curtains we had were showing their age as were*the carpet and bedspreads.**She*contacted our local marine canvas shop, Topstitch, and asked them to come over to give her an estimate on new curtains.* Unlike a typical upholstery shop, we used Topstitch because they are familiar with the curves and not-so-straight lines inside Trawlers*and motoryachts.* Amy brought with her three books of sample fabrics so we perused them until we found exactly what we wanted.*

We went with a sunbrella striped fabric which is a totally different look*from what we previously had.* We asked that*they have a blackout backing which is great for not only keeping light out but also keeping warmth in during the winter months.* We also wanted a fabric that is machine washable as*our previous curtains were not.** The curtain tracks on*our trawler were probably original equipment and many of the plastic eyelets had broken so all of those were replaced as well.* We*are very pleased with the new look.

Mary then took a sample of the fabric to our local carpet store and found the perfect light blue carpet.* They made a custom rug for the salon and three smaller rugs for our stateroom.*

New beige comforters and custom throw pillows made out of the curtain fabric round out the new look to Patricia Ann.* This should keep Mary happy for a while!

If those are Ekorn Stressless chairs and ottomans, you are looking at $4,500.00 of it.* Expensive, but the best.* I love mne.* Of course they don't beat my green recliner on the beach.

Hi Don

Mavis and I just Recently Purchased at $4,100.00 two Beige Ekornes chairs with matching Ottomans.


Lots of money but well worth it.


Ours were made in Norway *of real cow hide .


Our Mainship came with a 7 ft sofa *too bulky and not easy to clean behind,it *is coming off the boat when the weather is more favorable. Some sofas can convert to a bed for guests *unfortunately we have found out the hard way *having people for us invites a long list of problems , our *Friends have "dry boats" you can count them on one hand.
As far a decorating our boat which is not a night club or grandma living room we have deliberately kept it simple steered away from* the house look ,that is ,no curtains ;potted plants; nick knacks and pictures of relatives.


Less is more .

Bermuda!* What a wonderful place.

We have 2 Ekorns chairs and ottomans sized to fit Lou and me.* Swivel tables are attached.* Extreme comfort.* About $4,500, but extremely comfortable.* Our boat has no room for them, but the two Stidd seats do pretty well.

Thanks, Walt.* You don't do so badly yourself.* Living in one of the world's best climates, overlooking the Pacific Ocean, cruising to Catalina Island on that beaftiful Gourmet Cruiser.* They don't call it Gourmet for nothing.

BTW,*Somers is in Bermuda.* We go to the Bahamas.* Not too shabby either way.

Sharing with friends and family is one of the best parts of boating.* I noticed the great shots of your grandkids on your boat.* You are giving them a great experience.* Isn't it great when the grandkids ask, "what are we doing next"?*

Looks great! Do you have anything under the rug for slippage? I've heard that rug grips are bad on the floors.

We opted for the honeycomb style blinds, keeps the Florida heat out, yet allows for soft light and they don't sway as much underway. No miniblind clacking either! They are sooooo 80's.

Currently our fancy chairs are in the Florida room - she has a loveseat recliner that allows for more snuggling.

I'd love to have the master bedspread redone - it's no fun folding and smushing to get at regular duvet to look right. Good news is that it is washable, but you never get rid of the diesel smell!
