Another "A" Safety Deficeneincy identified in the survey: Due to the plastic "see thru" filter bowl on Racor filters, for the filters to meet current CFR Sec. 183.590 for fuel system components, it should be upgraded to a metal canister type filter or refitted with metal flame shield kit from Racor. (referenced both Lehman 135's and Northern Lights 12KW Generator)

Any input as to which is the best way to go - flame shield or metal canister (that are Racor 500FG).

Thanks Rgds Graham

I wouldn't want to loose the ability to see water and crud accumulating in the bowl. There should be a retrofit kit.

You are in the Cayman Islands?
Your survey now requires you to meet CFR ratings? Is this new? Or only due to your location?
I needed a new survey this year for my insurer. My surveyor did not require me to upgrade my Racor 500s to the ones with the metal covers.

Those covers are hard to find. In a few minutes all I got were these for comparison.

Ok this is not a joke.

They re called dog buckets. Come in All sizes. You just slide it under your raycor and safety wire it on. Now you have a heat shield and a catch bucket to drain water all for about a tenth of the price.

Heat shields seems to be the new hot button for surveyors. Most of us have not run into this but we will.

Hi, no this was surveyed in Wisconsin so US certified surveyor, we did find the flame protectors on Amazon, the challenge may be enough space to put them on , especially on the generator where the filter is very close to the engine. If you PM me I'll send you the list of "A" items he included in his report if it helps.

I would go with the heat shields and also the metal drain valve over the plastic one that came as original. Racorstore.com has all the parts. No affiliation. I like to mount a small LED light behind the clear bowl so it is easy to see if there is anything in the bowl or not.

I got rid of my Racors and went with Tony Athens sequential filtering. I don't care to have those clear bowls. I just open the drain on the filters thus being certain that there is no water or crud instead of peering through those bowls and wondering if I am really seeing what might be in there. 20210201_142145.jpg
