I was due to haul out today. This happened yesterday. Picture was taken from the foredeck of my boat less than 100 yds away. No one was injured but the lift driver was thrown into the water. Rear straps or cable broke and aft end of boat went down pulling the lift backwards and dragging the right side of the lift off the wall.

Oh man, every boat owner’s nightmare. 😱

They sew in indicator threads in the straps. When they start breaking then it is time to replace the strap…. Guess they will find out about the indicators in the new strap.

Salvadore Cabrales, the proprietor, said it was a cable failure and not a strap. He also feels he will have it running again by June 2nd.

If you are wary or need to move on, the shrimp boat yard in Guaymas next to Gabiel's Marina Seca can and will haul you. Gabriel will make the arrangements as they will put you in his yard. Mostly DIY yard so if you need good contractors, probably not a good choice.
Let me know if you need contact, I can likely go back and find it somewhere in my archives.

Actually looks like the pier beneath the Travelift collapsed.

Travelifts have a safety stop that alerts when the actual load exceeds the rated capacity. My hunch is these safety devices are routinely disabled in smaller yards.......

It all looks meticulously maintained, so it is surprising that anything in that setup would fail.
Part of the adventure, I suppose. Glad no one was hurt.

Actually the wall is intact. The right side of the lift was jerked back behind the end of the wall. Only the boats fishing rig kept the lift from going over into the harbor. They have stated that they think it will be operable again on June 2.
