Malinda here,
Looking for background on 1964 MARCO Trawler Dreamer
I'm in conversation about this purchase we're navigating toward survey and I'm exploring "due diligence" in considering this purchase
my goal is to explore the waters here (PT), San Juans, BC if possible and possibly Alaska over the next 1, 2 or more years. I'm living in Port Townsend
The seller Mike Dunatov has offered to be an ongoing resource for engine questions after 90 day 'warranty' period
My connection to wooden boats started way back working on the MV Waters. Many thousands of hours spent along the outer coast of Kenai Fjords and Katmai I baked cakes but didn't learn the engine room, I could start the genset but didn't know how to change the oil haha. I first heard about Port Townsend from the captain I am still close with the mate, Dia, she told me this week, "it's like an illness" the wooden boat thing.
If anyone knows how I can find out information on previous owners please let me know.
She is registered in the MARCO inventory #32 but I could not figure out how to get her specs
Mike D purchased her about a year ago from an owner in Seattle who had the boat for a short time

Sorry, I JUST found this post, and you may have either bought the boat or passed on it. Looks like it was most recently for sale in Laconner?

Wow, only 4 ever made!

I presume you've already searched google and found the photos of her in Laconner from craigslist. I live in the area and could wander those docks and see if anyone knows about her, I'm familiar with those docks shown in the craigslist ad.

Found another facebook post with her in it, You may already know this from Mike -Ed Monk Wooden Boat Club | Been here before but want to tell all fellow classic wooden boat lovers that my summer's long restoration of the 1964 Ed Monk designed and MARCO built... | Facebook where a guy named Wendell Brunk claimed to have some knowledge of the boat.

Found this on woodenboat TYEE | WoodenBoat. Its a longer boat but similar design, and has recent (6 yrs old) info on the owner who is in WA. Might have info/documents on Marcos earlier yachts?

Found a photo of a Mrs. Walter Shook in 1969, a member of the WASPS (Women's Power Squadron) in Seattle, could be wife, how many women in Seattle in 1969 were involved in helming a boat in a change of command event were married to a Walter Shook?!? Photo is for sale on ebay- https://www.ebay.com/itm/357003812815. That led me to find mention of her and Walter in a Kirkland history website index of notable news stories where she was being appointed to the school board in Kirkland and Walter was on the city council, both of these entries are in 1948 and 1954 respectively. I also found a mention of her in a nursing training text from 1963 (and mentioned in several updates up to 1972.) I located family history for Walter and Donna, it looks like they had one child, Robert, who died in 2004.

SHOOK, ROBERT CLINTON, also known as ROBERT C SHOOK, was born 30 May 1943 in SEATTLE KING, Washington, son of WALTER H SHOOK (father) and DONNA I BATTEON, was assigned Social Security number 532-44-8474 (indicating Washington), and died 2 December 2004. in Palm Springs, CA.

Assuming there was only one Walter Shook in the Puget Sound area, this could be the family. I put odds on better than half, with the wife deeply involved in yachting.

The probate case for Robert ESTATE OF ROBERT CLINTON SHOOK included a disbursement to a JAMES WALTER SHOOK.

Assuming all of what I found is correct, James may be a source of some info about "grandpa's boat." I have no idea where he was born or lives.

Lastly, and you may know this as well, the boat is registered with USCG. I wonder if there is a way to look up historical documentation info? I've never tried but it could be interesting.
