5.** This is the old North Harbor soon to be replaced. Some of the float fingers are so bad no boats are assigned to them.

8.** A rather large, serious and well fit troller.

9.** This is the cockpit where the fishing is done.

10.* Loading a Seine net onto the deck of a boat.

11.* Skiff Dave built and towed up from Puget Sound. Sorry It's fuzzy.

12.* This is a stitch and glue sampan type double chine hull. Designed by Phil Bolger and probably modified by Dynamite Payson to 18'. Super good boat I think.

13.* The Duwam is a Hanson designed troller built in 1940. Who says wood boats don't last.! She's fished by a man probably as old as the boat and is in fine shape. Powered by a 3-71 DD and has plenty of power even when loaded w fish. Owner says she burns 1gph trolling and 1.8gph under way. She has a very deep hull. One can stand up under the wheelhouse w lots of clearance in the cabin below. Beautiful boat.

Yes. We like Petersburg too but very few places to eat. The book store is Sing Lee Alley Books. They never figured out who murdered Sing Lee. I'll post more pics later.

I recognize the skiff as a "Diablo". Highly modified. These are Phil Bolger designed, very versatile skiffs. In the early 90's, I built one (First build) and had a blast with it. They make wonderful tenders and can be modified as the owner/builders desire.

Eric--- Thanks for posting the photos. Of all the places in SE Alaska we've visited over the years in the Beaver Petersburg is our favorite by far. We used to keep the plane at Alaska Island Air, and later at Pacific Wing's dock in the harbor. I think one reason Petersburg has remained a great place is because those God-awful cruise ships with their 3,000-plus passengers can't get into the harbor. I think the Columbia is the largest ship that can get up Wrangell Narrows. I liked the photo of Duwam. Our favorite boat in Squalicum Marina is Donna, a salmon troller also built in the 1940s. The owner told me Donna was built in Port Angeles and she still has her original gas engine. Don't know who designed her, though. Until a few years ago he fished her regularly up in SE and he still keeps her in beautiful shape. Here's a photo I took of her the other year.

Yup Donna's from the old school. Good looking old troller Marin. That guy must not have any faith at all in the boat handling abilities of the guy next to him though. Never seen so many fenders. And I had a wonderful experience being aboard the FV Duwam. The owner was equal to the boat in essence.

Marin I just looked at Duwam and I see both boats are almost exactly the same.

Donna and Duwam are indeed quite similar. I think the 36' Donna is the more double-ended boat, however. Here are a few detail photos I took, including one of her stern. Very typical, local-built troller from this era. There are a couple more like this in our marina, although not double-ended, but Donna is by far in the best condition.
