I need to buy a replacement basket for one of my Raw Water Strainers. A Perko 493/500 with a 3" diameter basket. I'm not sure the lenght as there seems to be a few sizes but the point is they are almost $400 just for the basket! Does anyone know someone that makes plastic replacement ones or cheaper ones? Thanks.

I found a lot of cheaper ones by googling Perko strainer basket. But you would need exact size to see the exact price. But there were a lot of them under $100.

Like Dave said, you're looking in the wrong place, thats hundreds of dollars higher than it should be. The part numbering scheme for Perko strainers is:

493 (or 500) - _ _ _ - 99D

The first 3 digits are the strainer number, see image below
The next 3 digits are the pipe size: 007=1-1/4" 009 = 2" 010= 2-1/2" etc
The last 3 digits indicate the actual part, 99 is for part, D is for basket only

Thanks. Figuring out which one I have from the label is useless beyond knowing it is a 493/500. It is the one you have up there as 493 but the sticker lists it as 493/500. Not sure if that means the sticker is placed on both models or if it is a sub class. Either way, I'm going to have to go measure the strainer onboard today to figure out which one it is. It is one of the two larger ones. If it is the #9 size then I think the going rate is $167. That is a world below $400 but still absolutely ridiculous gouging. Hell, I just bought LifePo4 100ah batteries for that price and this thing is a thin sheet of stainless with a plastic cap on the bottom. If nobody makes a reasonably priced one, expect me to post 3d printed ones on Ebay soon.

I’ve found stainless monel and plastic all at BOW( Boat Owners Warehouse).

The 493 and 500 units share many of the same parts, and 500 only available in the larger (2"+) sizes. Your size will be determined by the image to identify 493 or 500 and what pipe size is threaded into the inlet/outlet. This will be the part number for the basket only, 493 or 500 for the first 3 digits:

_ _ _ 009 99D 2"
_ _ _ 010 99D 2-1/2"
_ _ _ 011 99D 3"

I bought my plastic strainers at West Marine. Don't remember what I paid but they weren't very expensive.

I was able to purchase a pretty large 3 inch diameter strainer for one of my raw water intakes at West Marine, with a contractors discount, for around $85. That was about two years ago, so I’m sure it’s gone up some but not to $400. I will say, it took Marine about two months to find the right size. But they did it!

I found multiple options on ebay and Amazon using the measurements. Nothing over $35-45.
