Are the antisiphons mounted at sea level or higher?
what backflow prevention does the exhaust have?
For the last 40 years the anti-siphon valves have been about 2-3 ft above sea level.
This boat has travelled from here to Alaska and down to southern Mexico on these engines.
Based on that, it would seem that exhaust backflow hasn't been an issue for this installation.

I've been lax about posting my recent progress with the ongoing refit of Bingpot.
Below are some of the stages of the generator replacement project. The old generator is a
Westerbeke 8kW and likely from 1985. It sure looked like it! Only a full rebuild could save it.
I decided to cut that loss...

After stripping the generator of its sound shield and exterior attachments, my trusty Harbor
Freight engine crane came in handy for the umpteenth time. With it, the 4' lift was no sweat.

Always fun to see an update, especially with photos.

Ha, I was looking at the photos and thinking that looked a lot like my HF engine hoist. It does come in handy. I laugh to myself every time I remember the first time I needed one and thought about renting instead of buying. That would only have cost me like $4,895 by now....

The removable salon floor sections made the generator project relatively straightforward.
Once the old genny was on the floor we made a short trip to the Alamitos Marina Shipyard.
They were waiting with their old-school crane and C-frame rig to pick the Westerbeke up.
My pals from Advanced Marine Power were also there with the new Northern Lights 6kW.
The yard crane plopped that one on the cockpit floor and we were off!

You are going to love the Northern Lights generator. I have the same model in my boat. Did you get the sound shield as well for it?

Love those NL gens. They will outlast all of us (at least those of us with a gray hair or two). And with minimal spares, they are fixable almost anywhere you are, if you do happen to experience a hiccup.
Congrats.

Thanks. The sound shield's cardboard box is visible on the right side of the last photo. ;)

Beautiful generator!!!

I replaced the OEM 8KW westerbeke with a 9 KW NL 14 years ago. That generator has a bit over 2,000 hours on it, and has been perfect!!! Zero issues.

On the NL, be sure to order the Stainless Steel exhaust elbow to be replaced in a few years.
I did the same swap out 15 yrs ago and 5,000 genny hrs later - no issues.
Be sure to get the list of replacement impellers and filters
