On the Grand Banks 49, how are the different cabin styles referred to?

The friendliest place on the web for anyone who enjoys boating.

Trying to properly refer to layout designs properly. The 49s seem to have many layouts. Deck layouts have full length owners cabin and a shorter owners cabin with rear access to small after deck. How are these referred to?

Interior arrangements are even greater with two cabin, three cabin, galley up, galley down, wing door at helm station or just aft. Lots to sort out.

The common Grand Banks models are:
  • Classic: three cabin with the master stateroom towards the stern and the guest stateroom forward.
  • Motoryacht: one or two forward staterooms with the master stateroom at the rear with full headroom through-out. (In the Classic the rear stateroom tucks under the side-decks.)
  • Europa: All the cabins and decks are in the same level; covered cockpit and side decks.
  • Sedan: one or two cabins towards the front and a large open cockpit at the back.
Not all the hull lengths came in all the layouts.

The 49s I have seen have all been the "Motoryacht" design.

We picked the 49 classic for the galley up, stand up engine room, and having the seperation of the salon between us in aft stateroom and company in forward staterooms.

We found a 49 GB Classic locally, that they guy will sell. It is one of the few GB layouts that I really like. The ER is almost standup for me. Lots of room. The Galley is up, and has two small staterooms forward, and master stateroom aft. It needs exterior cosmetic work, but the wood decks were removed and fiberglassed really nicely in the past. The fuel tanks are all accessible, and in excellent shape. I would have been tempted if we didn't already have a boat. Anyone looking for one?

The height in our engine room is 6ft to the bottom of the deck beams and the workshop room is 1 inch less. I have seen taller guys lower the grates over the bilge to get more height. We looked at one where they did that before we bought this one.

Thanks. This helps a lot. The one we are looking at is the Motoryacht, galley down, settee and one guest cabin.

Ours is the 49. We have the Lugger engines. As we are looking at the boat is there anything we should be particularly keen about checking?

Where is the boat located?

Between LaBelle, and Moore Haven, Florida, just off of the Caloosahatchee River. A friend of ours from WA State was going to buy it but he ran into family issues and backed out. I wasn't even aware that this model existed prior to seeing this one. Needs a lot of cosmetic work, but it's a nice boat!

The usual stuff on a older boat, fuel tanks, engine oil analysis, gen set oil analysis, outside deck. stuffing boxes, shaft logs, cutlass bearings, when you haul out for survey check keel underneath for any penatrations, water would be seeping out if there was. These GB have a hollow keel that is not open to the bilge so if any holes through the keel from hitting bottom then it will fill with water.
